Uber for teens Privacy Notice

This notice explains the personal data (“data”) we collect when you use Uber for teens, how we use and share it, and your rights and choices regarding your data. You may want to read it with your parent(s) or guardian(s) (“Parent(s)”). You can read Uber’s full privacy notice here.

Unless otherwise indicated below in the Country Specific Guidance section, the practices described in this notice apply wherever Uber provides Uber for teens.

If you have questions, you can contact us here. You can also find more information about Uber’s privacy practices in Uber’s Privacy Center, which you can also find in the Privacy menu in Uber apps.

1. What information does Uber collect, and when does it collect it?

We collect the data that you, or your Parent(s), provide to us. This includes:

  • Account information: This is the data, such as your name, email address and phone number, password, and payment information that we need to create and operate your Uber for teens account.

  • Age: We collect your age and date of birth to make sure you are eligible to use Uber for teens.

  • Customer support data: We collect data from you when you or your Parent(s) contact our customer support team so that we can help address any issues you encounter when using Uber. This includes any information you, or your Parent(s), provide when contacting Uber support, such as chat messages or call recordings with our support team.

  • Ratings and feedback: We collect the ratings and feedback that you provide about your drivers and delivery persons, or that they provide about you. You can find more information on ratings here. You can see your rating under the Account menu in the Uber app.

  • Survey responses.

We also collect data automatically when you use Uber for teens. This includes:

  • Location data: If you request a ride, we track the location of your driver during your trip, and link that data to your account. This allows us to display where you are on your trip to you and your Parent(s).

We also determine your approximate location, and can determine your precise location if you allow us to do so through the settings on your phone. If you do, we will collect your precise location from the time you request a ride or delivery until the ride is finished / your order is delivered. We also collect such data when you have the Uber app open on your phone’s screen.

You can use Uber without letting us collect your precise location. However, it may be less convenient for you, including because you will have to type your location into your phone instead of allowing us to detect it for you.

  • Trip and Order information: We collect data regarding the trips and deliveries you request. This includes the pick-up and drop-off locations for your trips, items that you order for delivery, the date and time of your request or order, delivery address and the amount paid.

  • Communications data: We collect data when you contact your driver or delivery person through the Uber apps, including the contents of any messages, or phone calls (if we tell you in advance that we’re recording phone calls).

  • Audio recordings: Uber for teens allows you to record the audio of your trips. If you turn on this feature, audio recordings will be automatically generated and stored on your device.

  • Device data: We collect data about the phone or other devices you use to access our services, including IP address, device identifiers, and information regarding your device operating system, software and preferences.

Depending on how you use Uber’s services, we may use “cookies” and similar technologies to collect some of the data described above. For more information on our use of these technologies, please see Uber’s Cookie Notice.

2. How does Uber use my data?

Uber uses your data to enable you to request and receive trips or deliveries through Uber for teens. This includes using your data to create or update your account, help your driver pick you up or get you to your destination, track your rides or deliveries, provide you with trip or delivery updates, and calculate prices.

We may also use your data for purposes such as:

  • Safety, security and fraud: This includes sharing your location data with your Parent(s) during trips; using your location data to verify that your trip ends at your requested drop-off, and alerting your Parent(s) or the police if it does not; using account, location and other information to prevent and detect fraud; using your location, account and order information to provide live support from safety experts during trips or deliveries; and using your data (and those of other Uber users you interact with) to enforce Uber’s terms and conditions and Community Guidelines.
  • Customer support: We collect and use your data to help resolve issues you encounter when you use Uber for teens, or when you otherwise contact Uber’s customer support team.
  • Research and development: This includes using data to better understand how you and others use Uber, and how Uber could be improved, and to develop or improve our services and features.
  • Enabling communications between you and your driver or delivery person: This allows you to contact your driver or delivery person, for example, regarding your pick-up location or items left in cars.
  • Marketing: We use data to send you messages to inform you about Uber products and services that we think you might enjoy.
  • Legal proceedings and requirements: We use data for purposes of meeting our legal requirements, including to investigate claims or disputes relating to use of Uber’s services, in the event of legal proceedings, or if requested by law enforcement.

  • with service providers and partners who help Uber provide its services to you. This includes those that help us process payments, store data, provide customer support, enable map services, send you non-personalized advertising, conduct surveys and research, enhance the safety of our services, and provide insurance. For more information on those safeguards, please see Uber’s Privacy Notice.
