Frequently asked questions
Driving uberPOOL doesn't require you to do anything very different than an uberX trip, but there are a few situations you might have questions about. Take a look at the answers to common questions below. As a reminder, all uberPOOL trips are based on uberX rates. Rider discounts do not mean you get paid less.
How far will I go out of the way to pick up someone else?
uberPOOL matches riders going in the same direction. A rider requesting an uberPOOL understands that he or she may have to go a little out of the way, but we’ll make sure that it’s not too inconvenient for you or the other rider.
Will riders be upset about taking a longer route with uberPOOL than they would with uberX?
Riders who request uberPOOL choose to share their ride in exchange for a discounted rider fare. Riders understand that sharing the ride could lead to a slightly longer trip and are ok with that since they are receiving a significantly discounted fare. If a rider tells you not to accept the second rider request, you can kindly ask them to cancel the trip and request an uberX instead.
How do you know that riders are going in the same direction?
Riders are required to enter their destination when requesting an uberPOOL. Our technology will only match up riders who are traveling along a similar route
How many riders are allowed at a time?
Currently, two riders are allowed per pickup location for a total of four riders in your vehicle. We have let riders know of this policy, but if a rider shows up with more than two people, we suggest that you kindly request that they cancel that trip and request an uberX.
Will I get an uberPOOL request in the middle of a trip?
Yes, you can get a second request before, during, or after picking up the first rider. These requests will be automatically added to your queue.
Can riders change their destination?
No, uberPOOL dropoff locations are fixed. Riders are not allowed to change their destination after they have requested a ride. If a rider wants to change their destination, kindly request that they cancel and request another uberPOOL.
Which rider should I drop off first?
Riders should be dropped off in the order that your Uber Driver app directs. But, if a rider requests to get off before their entered destination, you can drop them off. Make sure you go into menu, scroll down to the rider, and end their trip.
Where is uberPOOL active in New Jersey?
uberPOOL is available across the entire state of New Jersey!
What happens if I don’t accept the second rider?
The app will automatically add new riders to your trip and adjust your route and directions. To take a break, tap the new status switch to stop receiving requests. If you cancel the second rider, it will count as a cancellation and affect your cancellation rate.
