How it works

1. Call us, toll-free

Call 1-833-USE-UBER (1-833-873-8237) from a phone that can accept texts. An Uber team member will help you set up your account, if you don't already have one, and request a ride. You can choose to speak in English or Spanish when requesting a trip.

When setting up your account, you'll add a payment method. Don’t worry—you won’t be charged for calling us; we’ll charge your payment method on file after you complete a successful trip. To help keep your personal information safe and secure, make sure to use only this phone number when calling to request a ride.

2. Make stress-free requests

You can either call the moment you need a ride or call ahead to request a ride up to 90 days in advance, giving you more certainty so you can relax on the day of your trip.

3. Get trip details by text

After your phone call, we’ll send you a text with details about your confirmed trip and the driver picking you up, including their name, car type, license plate number, and estimated time of arrival. You’ll also receive a text when your driver arrives at your pickup location.

4. Your safety is a top priority

Before you get in your ride, check that your driver’s name, license plate number, and car make and model match the details you received by text. Everyone who drives with Uber is screened before their first trip.¹ In addition, Uber reruns these driver screenings at least every year² and uses technology to look for issues in between.

Choose Uber Black for an elevated experience with professional drivers. These professional drivers are required to maintain a minimum rating of 4.85 stars, be insured to drive commercially, and meet state or local-level livery regulations.

  • The cost of your ride will vary based on a few factors. When you call us, we'll let you know your options and the cost before we confirm your ride.

  • We currently have team members ready to receive your requests for a ride 7 days a week, from 4am to 10pm ET. We're working to expand those hours in the future.

  • You cannot use the service from a landline phone. You'll need to call from a phone that can receive text messages.

  • We recommend being ready to meet your driver as soon as you call 1-833-USE-UBER—it’s that fast.

  • Rides are all one-way trips, but don’t worry—once you’re ready to leave wherever it is you’ve gone, just use 1-833-USE-UBER to request another ride.

  • You can now prebook a ride with 1-833-USE-UBER up to 90 days in advance.

  • Uber is a cashless service. When you call us to request a ride, we’ll help you set up an account and make sure you have a debit or credit card on file with us to pay for your trip.

  • You'll receive information about your driver in a text after requesting your trip. All drivers receive an annual background check.

  • At this time, account holders can only request for themselves through the 1-833-USE-UBER service. You must call using the phone number registered with the account. You can still make trip requests for others through the Uber app.

  • At this time, multiple-destination trips are not available through 1-833-USE-UBER, but you can request a trip with multiple destinations in the Uber app.
