20+ improvements to your Uber experience in 2023
We’re pleased to share features that help provide a safer, seamless, and fairer experience for drivers, couriers, and shoppers.
Safety
We’re helping you stay safe on the road with Apple CarPlay and Record My Ride. And next year, you’ll be able to see that you’re picking up a verified rider.
App improvements
We’re announcing tools to streamline your day, whether you drive, deliver, or shop with Uber.
Fairness
We are committed to fairness and transparency in decisions that impact your access to the platform.

Record My Ride
We’re expanding the availability of Record My Ride on iOS to 12 new US cities. Record My Ride allows drivers to record audio and video of their trips using their phones. Built with privacy in mind, every recording is encrypted and stored directly on drivers’ devices, so nobody can access it unless a driver chooses to send it in for review.
Verified Riders
Starting next year, we’ll significantly expand verification of rider identities to confirm their account details against trusted data sources or an ID. Over time, you’ll be able to see that you’re picking up a verified rider right on the offer card.
Guest rides
Pickups can be confusing when your rider is not the same person who requested the ride. With guest rides, drivers will be informed ahead of time when they’re picking up the guest of a rider.

Real-time navigation feedback and alternate routes
We’ll soon begin to put real-time road incidents—such as construction and closures—into the Uber map, which will then redirect you to alternate routes to help avoid delays. You’ll also be able to report any road closures not shown on the map.
Improved courier instructions
Finding the exact location to drop off a delivery can be challenging, especially in apartment buildings. Coming soon, couriers can see map labels that specify the exact entrance where they need to drop off the order, including photos when available.
Battery-aware matching
With battery-aware matching, you can connect your electric vehicle (EV) to the Driver app, then you’ll only receive ride requests that are within your battery’s range.
Courier parking assistance
Finding parking when delivering food can be stressful, especially in a big city. To help, your navigation map will show any free parking near pickup and dropoff locations.
Trip request improvements
We created sharper route lines on trip requests with new map markers for pickup and dropoff that more clearly show the trip direction.
EV charging map
EV drivers can now view nearby charging stations and navigate to them in the app.
Courier location sharing
Sometimes, finding the exact location of a customer can be challenging. Now the app will share the customer’s live location, making it easier to locate them for a seamless handoff.
Future-dated docs
Upload documents, such as insurance policies, in advance. This means you won’t have valid documents unnecessarily rejected for not being currently active, and you’ll be able to get online as soon as your documents go into effect.
Digital Plus Card
With the Digital Plus Card, you can unlock Shop & Pay orders immediately and start accepting orders anytime you’re online. With the digital card, you won’t need to worry about reimbursements.
Barcode scanning
When shopping, barcode scanning helps you quickly confirm that you have the right item. It also offers hints to find the right item if you scanned the wrong size, flavor, or brand.
Item replacements
If an item is out of stock for a Shop & Pay order, the app will now recommend an option based on what the customer is most likely to want, so you can replace items quickly and easily.
Fairness
Improvements to make earning on Uber fairer.

Providing a pathway to review an account deactivation decision
Our expanded in-app Review Center tells drivers and couriers why their account was deactivated, allows them to request an additional review of the decision, and gives them the opportunity to share any additional information like audio or video recordings.
Protecting drivers from false allegations and unfair ratings
It’s an unfortunate reality that some people report false issues with a driver with the aim of getting a refund from Uber. We’ve put new systems in place to detect this kind of behavior, and they will no longer affect driver ratings or account deactivation decisions.
Helping US drivers falsely accused of drug-impaired driving get back on the road
If a driver accused of driving under the influence of drugs wants to take a drug test to disprove the accusation, we now have a program to assist. Going forward, drivers whose accounts are at risk of permanent deactivation for drug-impaired driving will be provided the option to take a drug test through a nationwide partnership with LabCorp. Uber will cover the cost of the testing, whatever the outcome.
Ratings protection
We understand that issues beyond your control may affect your rating. We check whether the ratings a particular rider leaves are consistently low and, if so, remove these from your rating calculation. This includes ratings with feedback about an issue that may not be your fault.
