Driving change for women’s safety

Sexual assault and gender-based violence don’t belong anywhere in our communities. Which is why Uber is committed to help stop incidents before they happen—by partnering with and learning from women's safety groups, building tools and policies, promoting awareness, and empowering our community of users.

Safety features and education

We provide educational materials through resources on our Community Guidelines and initiatives such as Don’t Stand By to people who drive and request rides with Uber. They can also find safety tips and features, such as the Emergency Button, in the app’s Safety Toolkit.

24/7 support

If anything happens, 24/7 support is available in the app from a specialized team of Uber agents who are trained to handle sensitive reports.

Transparency

Victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment—whether riders, drivers, or employees—are free to bring individual claims in court and share the facts of those claims. Learn more about how we no longer require mandatory arbitration.

Women’s safety pledge

Uber pledged $5 million to women’s safety organizations through 2022. See some of the groups that we’ve funded below.

Classifying incidents

We partnered with the National Sexual Violence Resource Center and the Urban Institute to create a taxonomy to categorize and count sexual misconduct and sexual assault incidents, which we’ve shared with other companies that have women’s safety initiatives. Learn more here.

Always improving

Law enforcement and 100+ women’s safety and advocacy organizations help develop our processes and technology. We host meetups with executives across various industries to brainstorm ways to create meaningful change.

Our Community Guidelines prohibit sexual assault and sexual misconduct of any kind while using Uber.

    Futures Without Violence spearheads social and political change in the pursuit to end family violence and all forms of gender-based violence.

  • RAINN

    RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline and DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. RAINN also carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

  • A Call to Men

    A CALL TO MEN is a violence-prevention organization and respected leader on issues of manhood, male socialization and its intersection with violence, and preventing violence against all women and girls.

  • Casa de Esperanza

    Casa de Esperanza is a leader in the domestic violence movement and a national resource center for organizations working with Latinx communities in the US.

  • The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP)

    NCAVP works to respond to and end all forms of violence against and within lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer communities. NCAVP is coordinated by the New York City Anti-Violence Project.

  • The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV)

    NNEDV is dedicated to creating a social, political, and economic environment in which violence against women no longer exists.

  • NO MORE

    NO MORE unites and strengthens a diverse global community to help end domestic violence, sexual assault, and abuse.

  • Raliance

    Raliance is a collaborative initiative dedicated to ending sexual violence in one generation.

  • Women of Color Network Inc. (WOCN)

    WOCN is a national grassroots organization working to end violence against all women by centralizing the voices, wellness, and leadership of women of color and their communities.
