Uber vehicle decals

Under local regulations for Maryland, all drivers must display an Uber decal on their vehicle while online. Place one on your rear passenger side window facing outward. You can remove it when you decide to go offline and save it for the next time. Pro tip: keep the paper it comes with to place your sticker on when not in use.

Once you become an Uber driver, we will mail you a decal. You should receive it within 7 business days. If you ever need a new decal after you become a driver, you can request a new one be mailed to you. You can also pick one up at your local Greenlight Hub.

Local requirements

To ensure that you stay safe and compliant on the road, all drivers should be aware of local regulatory requirements.

Maryland compliance

  • All vehicles operating on the Uber platform need a state vehicle inspection on file.

You must have a paper Virginia, Maryland, or Pennsylvania state inspection certificate to demonstrate completion of a valid vehicle inspection. This document is required for ALL vehicles even if new.

  • The Maryland Public Service Commission requires that all transportation network company drivers apply for a temporary transportation network operator (TNO) license in order to conduct trips in Maryland.

You may conduct trips while your application is pending.

  • You may not accept street hails (a request for a trip that is not made through the app). Soliciting and/or accepting street hails is a violation of our policy as well as local and state law.

If you violate this policy, you will face severe legal consequences, and you may lose access to the Uber platform.

  • You should always operate your smartphone, including any phones with the Uber app, in a manner consistent with local and state laws.

Virginia has specific restrictions on using mobile devices while driving.

  • You must carry proof of your personal insurance with you in your vehicle at all times. If you are involved in an accident or pulled over by law enforcement, you may also need to show proof of the Rasier policy Certificate of Liability insurance.

  • You are required to notify us of any change in your driver’s license status, motor vehicle registration, or motor vehicle insurance as well as any arrest or charge for a crime or driving offense, including any arrest or charge that would require you to register on the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry or on the US Department of Justice's National Sex Offenders Public Website.

Maryland regulations require that any Uber driver arrested or convicted of a crime notify Uber within 3 business days of the arrest or conviction. You can notify Uber here.
