Powered by Uber’s innovative technology, encouraging shared responsibility, and including guidance from health experts, these new measures are designed to help protect the health and safety of everyone who uses our platform.

    To prioritize your health, all riders are required to wear a face cover or mask. Riders are also no longer allowed to sit in the front seat, to leave more space between each of you.

  • Health and safety supplies

    We are working to provide you with health and safety supplies like face covers, disinfectants, and gloves to deliver food.

  • Expert-led guidance

    We are working with the World Health Organization (WHO) to share safety tips and resources.

  • Ride Safety Feedback

    You’ll now be able to leave feedback on health issues, such as a rider not wearing a face cover or a mask. This helps us improve and holds everyone accountable.

Community Guidelines

Our guidelines ask you to treat others with respect, follow the law, and keep one another safe. Anyone who doesn’t follow them may lose access to our apps.

Your safety drives us

Safety is designed into the experience. So you feel comfortable driving at night. So you can tell loved ones where you’re going. And so you know you have someone to turn to if anything happens.¹

Emergency assistance button

You can use the in-app emergency button to call authorities to get help if you need it. The app displays your location and trip details, so you can quickly share them with emergency services.

24/7 incident support

Uber customer associates trained in incident response are available around the clock.

Follow My Ride

Friends and family can follow your route and will know as soon as you arrive.

2-way ratings

Your feedback matters. Low-rated trips are logged, and users may be removed to protect the Uber community.

Phone anonymization

If you need to contact your rider through the app, your phone number may stay private.

GPS tracking

All Uber trips are tracked from start to finish, so there’s a record of your trip if something happens.


Using sensors and GPS data, RideCheck can help detect if a trip goes unusually off-course or a possible crash has occurred. If the app alerts us to such events, we’ll check in on you and offer resources to get help.

Emergency help if you need it

If you ever need urgent help on an Uber trip, you can contact 911 using the in-app Emergency Button in the Safety Toolkit.

The app will surface your live location, vehicle information, and license plate number, which you can quickly share with the 911 dispatcher so they can send help faster. And in a growing number of US cities, this information is automatically provided to the dispatcher.

You’re insured on every trip with a rider

Each trip you drive on the Uber app is insured to protect you, your rider, and your car.²

Liability for injury or damage to third parties for at least $1 million for a covered claim.

Uninsured or underinsured motorists coverage and hit-and-run accidents.

Your car, whether an accident was your fault or not, is covered up to the cash value of your vehicle subject to a $2,500 deductible**

(Certain vehicles offered through the Vehicle Marketplace are subject to a $1,000 deductible)

Leading auto insurance providers—like Allstate, Farmers®, Liberty Mutual, and Progressive—help protect you and your riders if anything happens.

An option to help protect you and your family

Optional Injury Protection insurance is offered through our partner Aon.³ For less than 4 cents per mile, this supplemental insurance helps to minimize the financial impact a covered accident can have on you and your family.

Safer roads for everyone, thanks to you

You play a key role in helping to make cities safer and roads friendlier to move around in.

Staying focused while driving

The app reminds you that you’re driving within the posted speed limit and to take healthy breaks, so you’re alert behind the wheel.

Uber’s Community Guidelines help riders and drivers enjoy a stress-free ride. Any person who doesn’t follow the guidelines may be at risk of being removed from the platform for the safety of the entire Uber community.
