Safety
Drive with confidence
Every trip is different—and with 24/7 support and in-app safety features designed with you in mind, you can feel supported at every turn.
Your Safety Toolkit and Preferences
On the Driver app’s homescreen, you can access 2 sets of tools at any time: the Safety Toolkit, where you can find a suite of safety tools to help you before, during, or after a trip,* and Preferences, which give you even more control to make each trip feel right for you.
Women Rider Preference
To help give women drivers more choice and peace of mind when they use Uber, we've designed a way for them to receive ride requests from women riders: by toggling on the Women Rider Preference in the Driver app settings.
Rider Rating Preference
You can set a minimum star rating for riders you want to receive ride requests from and toggle the setting on or off for flexibility at any time.
PIN verification
You and your riders have the option to require a 4-digit code before a trip can start. Doing so can help ensure that the right riders get in your vehicle.
Follow My Ride
Choose to share your trip location with friends and family so they can follow your trips in real time.
Record My Ride
You can automatically record trips through the Driver app using your phone’s selfie camera and microphone for an added layer of safety for you and your riders.
Emergency assistance
The in-app Emergency Button is always there if you need it. Plus, the app displays your location and trip details, so you can quickly share them with emergency services.
Additional safety features
Along with the Safety Toolkit, Uber provides other features to help you feel secure during every trip. These include:
Safety Hub
Set up emergency contacts, opt in or out of emergency data sharing, see insights about your driving behavior, set up speed limit alert notifications, and manage optional safety notifications.
Anonymous communications
When you call or text riders in the app, our phone number anonymization technology makes sure your personal information is not shared.
GPS tracking
All Uber trips are tracked from start to finish, creating a full record of your trip path.
24/7 incident support
Uber associates trained in incident response are available around the clock to address any safety concerns.
2-way ratings
Low-rated trips are logged, and riders may be removed from the platform for violations. Plus, we automatically block riders you rate 1 star.
Insurance
There are 2 important types of insurance: your personal auto insurance and commercial auto insurance. Both are required by law and ensure that you’re covered from the moment you go online.
- Personal auto insurance
This is the policy you maintain for your car. It’s active whenever you’re offline and using your vehicle, just like any other driver on the road. You cover this cost.
Your auto insurer may offer personal rideshare coverage options. This type of coverage is not the same as commercial auto insurance and is not required, but it could provide you with additional protection in the event of an accident.
- Commercial auto insurance
Uber maintains this policy on your behalf—no document or review required. It’s seamless and ready from the first time you go online. This insurance is designed specifically to protect you, your riders, and others on the road while you’re online with Uber’s Driver app.
Customer fares go toward covering this cost. Each week, you can see how this cost fits into your earnings through the weekly fare breakdown.
Uber’s Community Guidelines
Our Community Guidelines help make every trip feel safe, respectful, and positive. Anyone who fails to follow our guidelines may risk losing access to the Uber platform. Help us make the platform feel safe for everyone by reporting any unacceptable behavior and by keeping the following in mind:
Treat everyone with respect
Your actions help shape the safety and comfort of others. Foster positive interactions to create a welcoming community for all.
Help keep one another safe
Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Review our Community Guidelines and practice safe driving habits to help protect yourself and others.
Follow the law
Everyone who uses Uber must follow the law. Using our platform to commit crimes or violate any laws is strictly prohibited.

- What should I do if I feel unsafe during a trip?
If you ever feel unsafe during a trip, you can end the trip early, contact emergency services through the in-app Emergency Button, or reach out to Uber to report an incident 24/7. If it’s an emergency, call 911.
- What should I do if I’m in a car accident?
If you’re involved in a crash while driving with Uber:
- Ensure that everyone involved is OK. If there are injuries or damage, contact the police and paramedics. Be sure to save the police report number if there is one.
- Take photos of any damage to the vehicles involved, including your own, and get the contact and insurance information of other involved drivers and riders. We recommend taking photos of the accident location, too, if it’s safe to do so.
