Driving Insights FAQs

What is Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT):

Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) is a leading telematics provider whose mission is to make the world’s roads and drivers safer. Like many insurance companies, Uber is partnering with CMT to give you more insights into your driving behaviors, and information on how you can drive more safely.

How Driving Insights works:

CMT uses your phone sensor data to generate insights and a score based on your driving. These include speeding, hard braking, harsh accelerating, sharp turning, and phone handling.

How to understand the Driving Insights dashboard and score:

You will have access to a dashboard that can help you stay on top of your driving trends, breaking down what you’re doing well, suggesting areas for improvement, and offering tips for better driving practices. You can see how their score compares to other drivers in your area.

Why the Driving Insights score is important:

The Driving Insights score will help you understand how you can improve your driving. Safer driving is better for everyone on the road—and means a more comfortable ride for your passengers.

How the driving score relates to Advantage Mode:

If you are in an Advantage Mode and Standard Mode city, you will need to maintain a driving score of 75 or more to qualify for Advantage Mode. Today, the vast majority of drivers have a score above 75.

CMT’s tips for improving your Driving Insights score

  • Speeding: pay attention to posted speed limits and travel with the speed of traffic.
  • Harsh braking: increase the distance between you and the car in front of you. This gives you more time to react and brake gradually when the car in front slows down or stops.
  • Phone handling: use a phone mount to reduce phone handling, even if you’re using Apple Carplay or Android Auto. When your phone is mounted, one-click actions like engaging with offers will not affect your phone handling score.
  • Harsh accelerating: accelerate smoothly by gradually increasing your speed and refrain from rapid acceleration from passing other vehicles.
  • Sharp turning: keep a steady speed before and during turns. If you or your passengers are leaning during turns, then you should slow down.
