How much can drivers make with Uber?

The money you make driving with the Uber app depends on when, where, and how often you drive. Find out how your fares are calculated and learn about promotions, which can help increase your earnings.¹

How earnings are calculated

  • Standard trip fare

Earn a base fare plus amounts for how long and how far you drive. Per-minute and per-mile rates vary by city.*

  • Surge

Check the heat map in your app to find out when and where rider demand is high, so you can earn more on top of your standard fare.

  • Other types of earnings

Make money on additional passenger pickups on Pool, while waiting for riders, and on minimums for short trips.

  • Service fee

This fee helps fund things like app development and customer support.

  • Booking fee

Riders pay a booking fee to help cover safety, regulatory, and operational costs such as insurance.

  • Cancellations

In most instances, you’ll receive a cancellation fee if a rider cancels a request.

*Uber is currently piloting a new driver earnings structure in several cities that differs from the way the driver earnings experience is described on this site. In this pilot, drivers earn based on an upfront fare that is based on several factors, including base fare, estimated trip length and duration, pickup distance and destination. See more details about this pilot here.

Promotions and how they work

In-app promotions based on where the Driver app expects the most ride requests in your area help you plan ahead and set goals to maximize earnings. Not all promotions are available to all drivers. See terms below.²

Reach a set number of trips

Earn extra money if you complete a set number of trips in a certain amount of time when the offer is available.

Example: earn $30 extra for completing 20 trips this week.

Drive during busy times

Get paid extra for trips in certain areas at busy times.

Example: earn an extra $6 for completing 3 trips in a row with the first trip starting downtown between 4pm and 6pm.
