Uploading your documents
To drive using the Driver app, you are required to upload certain documents to get your account set up. Refer to the information below when uploading each document.
Required documents
- Driver's license
- Vehicle insurance and registration
- Background check
- Profile photo
These documents are required across the US, but if you visit a local Greenlight Hub or review your city's local information, you can get potential additional requirements for driving on the Uber platform.
Tips for uploading your documents
Following these suggestions and rules when uploading your documents can help the process go smoother.
Make sure all required details are clearly visible
Ensure that your document contains all required details before uploading. The entire document should be clearly visible.
Upload your driver's license first
This will speed up the approval process when we need to cross-check your license with other documents.
Upload one image or PDF at a time
You can go here to get more information about uploading your documents through the Driver app.
Submit original documents only
We do not accept photocopied documents, so please make sure you only upload originals.
It may take up to 48 hours for your documents to be reviewed and verified.
Required documents
You will need valid commercial documents to drive on the commercial Uber platform. See below for what you'll need to make sure you meet insurance and licensing requirements.
Note: some of the elements we look for include matching VINs, matching license plate numbers (Z or L plates, no T plates), matching drivers named on insurance documents, passenger endorsement on your driver's license, at least $1 million of commercial insurance coverage, up-to-date documentation, and consistency.
A valid US driver's license
You must have a valid Connecticut driver's license with a passenger endorsement (F endorsement or similar) or the equivalent from another state.
State of Connecticut memorandum of permit
You must have a permit from the Connecticut Department of Transportation that certifies you to operate a motor vehicle on the Uber platform.
Vehicle insurance
Valid insurance with coverage that meets or exceeds Connecticut’s commercial minimum financial responsibility requirements ($1 million), with the driver's name on the insurance policy.
It must clearly show:
- VIN (must match insurance)
- Vehicle make
- Vehicle year
- Expiration date
- Your name
Vehicle registration
Registration must be Connecticut livery registration displaying Z or L plates. Temporary vehicle registration with valid dates is accepted until permanent registration becomes available.
It must clearly show:
- VIN (must match insurance)
- Vehicle make
- Vehicle year
- Expiration date
Note: your name does not need to appear on the vehicle registration.
