Accepting riders with service animals

You can help people with disabilities by welcoming their service animals into your car.

The Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA, prohibits discrimination of any kind against people with disabilities and their service animals. In accordance with this law and Uber’s policies, refusal to transport service animals, even once, will result in permanent removal from the platform.

The basics

Allow service animals into your car

Service animals help people with a variety of disabilities, both visible and invisible. Since the law and Uber policies prohibit discrimination against people with disabilities and their service animals, refusal to accept them into your car, even once, can result in a permanent deactivation of your Uber driver account.

Welcoming service animals

Service animals are trained to enter the car before their owner and may sit near their owner to perform the task for which they have been trained. To avoid interrupting their work, you should never touch or interact with the animal. If there is damage or mess as a result of a service animal then you can reach out to us via the Help tab in your Uber Driver App for a repayment.

Recap

  • Open the door for the animal to enter your car first, as they're trained
  • Consider carrying a towel for the animal to lay on
  • Avoid petting service animals

And remember, in accordance with the Americans with Disability Act and Uber’s policies, refusal to accept a service animal, even once, will result in a permanent deactivation of your Uber driver account.
