TNC vehicle inspection

New regulation requires all driver-partners to obtain a TNC vehicle inspection in addition to the Massachusetts state vehicle inspection each year. Find an inspection center to schedule your annual inspection.

TNC vehicle inspection

Starting April 1, 2019, a new type of inspection is required for all rideshare drivers in Massachusetts. TNC vehicles are required to obtain a TNC inspection at the vehicle’s next annual inspection, or within 12 months of first date of activation on the Uber platform, whichever comes first.

The TNC vehicle inspection is given immediately after the state vehicle inspection (for Massachusetts residents only) and includes an interior safety check. There is a $15 fee for the TNC vehicle inspection in addition to the initial inspection fee.

How to get your TNC vehicle inspection

Find an inspection center

Visit any licensed inspection shop in Massachusetts. You can find the location closest to you by tapping below.

Ask for the TNC Inspection

Let the Inspector know you need the TNC vehicle inspection —this is different than a typical inspection. The TNC inspection should be performed immediately after you pass the State Vehicle Inspection.

Please note that Uber does not cover the $15 inspection cost.

Upload the completed TNC VI form

Once you pass the inspection, take a photo of the TNC vehicle inspection report with your phone and upload to your account. Please remember to include the VIN number and expiration date of the TNC vehicle inspection.
