Today, we are excited to launch a pilot program called uberWAV – it lets anyone in Boston who needs a wheelchair accessible vehicle request a ride at the tap of a button.
In cities across the country, we’re proud to have partnered with accessibility advocates and leaders to introduce product innovations that facilitate greater economic opportunity for deaf and hard-of-hearing drivers, as well as features to accommodate the blind and visually impaired community.
While we realize this won’t solve the accessibility challenges many Bostonians face, we hope this serves as a move in the right direction for expanding accessible options in the city. The move also demonstrates how modern technology like Uber’s can help provide wheelchair accessible vehicles to the riders that need them in a more efficient and convenient way.
This pilot program is just the beginning. As we continue to innovate to further increase mobility for all riders, we want to hear from you. Let us know about your Uber experience and how we can enhance our service for residents of Boston.
How to request
- Open your Uber app
- Enter in your destination
- Move slider over to the right to uberWAV
- Select uberWAV and confirm your request in the pop up screen
