In our efforts to help protect drivers, riders, and our community, we’ve suspended the Uber Pool product until further notice. This is in an effort to help flatten the curve and limit the spread of COVID-19.
To make sure we’re doing our part to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we’re switching to an appointment-only model for select Greenlight locations. Drivers and delivery people are required to schedule an appointment in advance if they want to visit a Greenlight location. If you have an offer to receive masks or other health and safety supplies, please arrive during distribution hours.
You can get help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the app. Go to Help in your Driver app, then select the topic where you need support.
Display your Uber vehicle decals
The CPUC (California Public Utilities Commission) requires that drivers must display an Uber decal on their vehicle while online. Place them on your front passenger windshield and rear passenger windshield facing outward. When taking trips at LAX, the airport requires you to display its placard beneath your front trade dress.
You can remove the decals when you decide to go offline and save them for the next time. Pro tip: if you keep the paper they come with, you can place your sticker on it when not in use.
Once you begin to drive with Uber, we'll mail you a decal. You should receive it within 7 business days. If you ever need a new decal after you begin driving with Uber, you can request a new one be mailed to you. You can also pick one up at your local Greenlight Hub.
Need a temporary decal? You can print one at home here.
Having Uber trade dress helps riders quickly identify your car, which can help you start the trip on time. Please be aware that failure to display trade dress on both front and rear windshields when online can result in a ticket and fine of up to $1,000.
In California, due to CPUC requirements, you cannot transport an unaccompanied minor on trips arranged through the Uber app. Keep in mind that in California, a rider must be over 18 to sign up for an Uber account. But if you believe a rider might be underage, you can ask them to confirm their age and let them know that you'll have to cancel the trip if they are indeed under 18. In addition, you can report requests to transport unaccompanied minors by submitting in-app feedback.
Tax Registration Certificate requirement
As an independent contractor using the Uber platform, you may be required to register your business with the Office of Finance of the City of Los Angeles and obtain and hold a Tax Registration Certificate. The City of Los Angeles Office of Finance has more information about the rules for registration at this website.
If you're unsure if the city’s business tax ordinance applies to you, please contact the City of Los Angeles Office of Finance to discuss the specific applicability to your situation.
Self-reporting vehicle mileage
In California, all TNC vehicles must complete a 19-point vehicle inspection every 12 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The 50,000-mile requirement includes miles driven when not logged in to the Driver app. As such, we require all drivers to self-report their vehicle mileage. Be on the lookout for how to report your mileage in the Driver app.
CPUC information requests
The CPUC requires us to notify drivers in California that consent is not needed for the disclosure of a driver's information to the CPUC. See CPUC Decision 16-04-041 at 3.
Rematch at LAX
- What is Rematch?
With Rematch, you can drop off at the airport and pick up without having to return to the Designated TNC Airport Assignment Area. After dropping off a rider, there will be a 45-second window where you could be rematched with another rider for pickup.
If you're at the terminal and don't receive a request within 45 seconds, you will need to exit the airport; to be eligible for another LAX pickup, head to the Airport Assignment Area. As always, waiting at the curb without a request is against airport regulations and can result in LAX police issuing you a citation.
- What vehicles are eligible for Rematch?
Rematch is available to UberPool and UberX drivers with valid LAX placards following a completed LAX dropoff. All other vehicles will continue to receive requests from the Airport Assignment Area only.
- Can I just drive to the terminal to qualify for Rematch?
No. You will only be eligible for Rematch after dropping off at the airport. LAX does not permit drivers to enter the airport without a dropoff or trip request, and you could receive a citation from LAX police if you do so.
- Does Rematch increase my wait time in the Designated TNC Airport Assignment Area?
No. Rematch reduces the number of cars in the Airport Assignment Area, which generally keeps the wait times even.
- What if my rider isn't ready?
Waiting at the curb is against airport regulations and can result in LAX police issuing you a citation, so if your rider requests too early and isn't ready, you should cancel the trip and exit the airport.
