Your guide to Uber’s Driver app

From tracking earnings to planning your day, learn how to use the Driver app to make the most of every trip.

Navigating the app

Uber's Driver app is designed to help you quickly find what you're looking for by using 4 primary sections:

Home

After selecting Home, you’ll get to a screen where you can:

  • Choose Go to start earning
  • See data like hourly trends
  • Toggle ride types by selecting the preferences icon (top right)
  • Access the Safety Toolkit (blue shield)
  • Tap the map to easily see busy areas and report road hazards

Earnings

The Earnings section shows what you’ve earned over the past week, provides options for cashing out, and includes a detailed weekly customer fare breakdown. You can also view Quests and promotions (if available) to discover more ways to earn.

Inbox

Your Inbox is a one-stop shop for communications between you and Uber. Here, you can view messages about your document statuses and miscellaneous things we think you should know, or get account and incident help by chatting with Uber Support.

Menu

The Menu section contains these important parts:

  • Profile: Check your Uber Pro status and personalize the details you share with riders
  • Help: Get support
  • Safety: Go to the Safety Hub
  • Settings: Configure your app
  • More ways to earn: Find new opportunities and discounts
  • Manager: View and update key documents and vehicles
  • Money: Access tax forms and manage payout methods
  • Resources: Learn about new and existing features

    Going online

    To earn with Uber, you need to go online. First you can plan ahead in the Home section of the app to discover earning trends and upcoming opportunities like events and reservations. When you’re ready to start receiving trip requests, select Go.

    Reading trip requests

    Trip requests display key information about trips before you accept them. Here’s a quick breakdown of the 2 kinds of trip requests that might be offered to you, based on your location:

    Exclusive requests (available everywhere)

    These are sent to you only—and just for a limited amount of time. If you’re going to take the trip, you must choose Accept before the time expires.

    Trip Radar requests (available in most cities*)

    These are sent to multiple drivers. Select Match if the trip interests you. If you're matched to one of the offers you selected, a trip will begin. In some cases, you can select the Trip Radar button to view a list of requests.

    Taking trips

    After accepting a trip, you’ll go through 3 main stages: navigating to your rider, starting the trip, and ending the trip. Here’s what it can look like:

    Pickup

    After you accept a trip offer, the app will guide you to the pickup location. If you need to contact your rider, select the phone icon.

    Trip start

    After picking up your rider, you’ll be prompted to swipe Start to begin your trip. Then the app will begin navigating to your dropoff location.

    Map reports

    While driving, you may encounter map reports from other drivers informing you about potential issues along your route such as an accident or road closure. You can also report such issues yourself by tapping the traffic cone icon on your map.

    Dropoff

    After arriving at the dropoff location and ensuring that your rider safely exits your vehicle, swipe Complete to finish your trip. Then prepare to accept another trip request or go offline.

    Destination Mode

    If you want to go somewhere specific, like toward your home, a medical appointment, or a busy area, you can turn on Destination Mode. Set your preferred destination and get matched with trips that move you closer to where you’re headed. **

    Vehicle integrations

    If your vehicle is equipped with Android Auto or CarPlay, or you drive a Tesla, you can use Uber’s Driver app on your vehicle’s screen to accept trips and get turn-by-turn navigation instructions without having to reach for your phone.

    Frequently asked questions

    • We occasionally send emails, push notifications, and in-app messages about new features. You can also look for communications about or even an invitation to Only on Uber. This annual event is where we announce updates in person with drivers and couriers, and it’s live-streamed and replayable on YouTube.

    • Uber’s Driver app is compatible with most modern Android and Apple smartphones. Plus, if your car is equipped with Android Auto or CarPlay, or you drive a Tesla, you can use the app on your vehicle’s display to accept trips and get turn-by-turn directions.

    • You can discover new earning opportunities by navigating to the Menu section of the Driver app, then choosing either Opportunities (to see special promotions and events in your area) or Work Hub (to explore additional earning opportunities you may not have opted into yet).

    • Your acceptance rate is the percentage of Exclusive trip requests you accept. We calculate your acceptance rate based on the last 100 Exclusive trip requests you’ve received. A higher acceptance rate helps keep you earning and may unlock higher Uber Pro status and more rewards.

    • Your cancellation rate is the percentage of trip requests you cancel after accepting them, including Trip Radar requests. We calculate it based on the last 100 accepted trip requests, excluding cancellations that are outside of your control. A lower cancellation rate helps keep trips running smoothly and may unlock higher Uber Pro status and more rewards.

    *Trip Radar requests are available in most US markets, excluding NYC, Oregon, and Washington State.
