Ready to make money delivering with Uber? This guide will help you learn some of the basics you’ll want to know before taking your first trip, from going online for the first time to getting paid.

Preparing your tools

A little preparation can go a long way toward making every delivery smoother for you and your customers. Here are some optional tools that can help make delivering easier:

Insulated bags

Having an insulated bag is optional, but it’s a great way to control food temperature. Customers appreciate when their food is delivered the way it was intended. Any insulated bag works. If you don’t have one, you can get one at our store.

Vehicle integrations

If your vehicle is compatible with the Driver app through Android Auto, CarPlay, or Tesla, consider setting it up to make going online, accepting trips, and navigating easier.

Phone accessories

If your vehicle doesn’t have an app integration, consider using a phone mount to help you navigate safely on the road. Discounts are available to couriers who are interested in buying a phone mount.

Going online

After your account is active and all steps have been completed, you can go online and get your first trip.

Trying a practice delivery

Before going online for the first time, you may see a message in your inbox encouraging you to try a practice delivery trip to get comfortable with the process.

Receiving requests

Select the “Go” button on the homescreen to start getting delivery requests.

Understanding requests

In most cities, requests include information such as a fare estimate, the type of delivery, and the trip duration. If you don’t accept or decline the offer, it will time out.

Delivery types

When you’re delivering with Uber, the types of trips you’re eligible for depend on your vehicle size, whether you have an insulated bag, whether you signed up to Shop & Deliver, and even your age. To explore exactly which delivery types you’re approved for, go to the Work Hub in the Menu section of the Driver app. Here are some possibilities:

Food delivery

Pick up food from restaurants and other merchants in your area and deliver it to customers.

Packages

From time to time, you might also receive requests to pick up and deliver packages.

Shop & Deliver

You can also sign up to shop for groceries and retail items and deliver them to customers.

Alcohol delivery

If you’re 21 or older, and depending on your location, you may be eligible to deliver alcohol to customers.

Delivery formats

When delivering, you may encounter a few trip types, including:

Batched trips

There are 3 ways to deliver batched orders:

  • Pick up multiple orders from the same merchant
  • Pick up multiple orders from different merchants, and drop them off to the same or different customers
  • Pick up packages from the same location and deliver them to multiple customers

Add-ons

Occasionally, you’ll receive your next delivery request before your current one ends. These trips help you stay busy and avoid downtime.

Satisfaction rating

Ratings help ensure that customers, couriers, restaurants, and stores have a great experience and that trips adhere to Uber’s Community Guidelines. Here’s how it works:

A 2-way system

After each trip, both the restaurant/store and the customer can leave a rating for you with a thumbs-up or thumbs-down. Your overall rating comes from your last 100 rated trips.

High and low ratings

Consistently high ratings from delivery customers can help you unlock rewards through Uber Eats Pro. Consistently low ratings may limit your access to some opportunities and features.

Knowing your rating

You can review your rating at any time by going to Menu, then selecting your profile picture.

Ratings protection

We automatically exclude certain ratings from your average courier rating: ratings from customers who frequently give couriers low ratings, as well as ratings from trips affected by factors outside of your control, such as a merchant delay. This helps ensure that your rating reflects the experience you provide.
