Let’s talk wait times and delays

Sometimes a trip takes more of your time than expected. You might wait for a rider at pickup, wait at an additional stop, or spend longer on the road because of traffic or other delays.

We’ve made updates to help you earn more in these moments—and make it clearer when and how you’re getting paid. Here’s what to know..

At pickup: Get paid while you wait

You’ve made it to the pickup. If your rider needs more time, you can earn wait-time fees for the extra time you spend waiting.

We’ve also made it easier to see how waiting could affect your earnings. The pickup screen shows how long you’ve waited, along with the wait-time and no-show fees that may apply.

At a midtrip stop: Start earning sooner

If your trip includes an additional stop, you can also earn while you wait.

Now, you’ll start earning stop time fees after one minute* at an additional stops after the first pickup, instead of 2 minutes. You’ll also be able to see how long you’ve been waiting and what you’re earning directly in the app.

These multi-stop compensation updates are also expanding across Uber Black, Uber Green, and UberXL trips so now all ride service types are covered.

When the trip changes: See what it means for your fare

Sometimes the trip you accepted changes along the way. A rider might add a stop or update their destination.

When the drop-off location is updated or a stop is added  and your fare changes, you’ll see the new dropoff address and fare change directly in the app. That makes it easier to understand what changed and how it affects your earnings.

After the trip: Get paid when a trip runs long

Wait time isn’t the only way a trip can take longer than expected. Traffic, construction, and other delays can add time once you’re on the road.

That’s where Delayed Ride Guarantee comes in.

If an eligible trip takes 5+ minutes longer than estimated, from pickup to drop-off, your fare can automatically increase to account for the extra time. And for trips that run more than 15 minutes longer than estimated, we’re increasing how much more you can earn.*

There’s nothing you need to do. If an adjustment applies, it happens after the trip is completed.

We’re also making these adjustments easier to find. In your trip receipt, you’ll be able to see what changed, why it changed, and how much more you earned.

More time should mean more earnings

The policy that applies depends on when the extra time happens:

• At the first pickup: You can earn wait-time fees when your rider keeps you waiting
• At an additional stop: You’ll start earning wait-time fees after one minute
• When the destination changes: You’ll see how the change affects your fare
• When the trip runs long: An eligible Delayed Ride Guarantee adjustment is applied after the trip

Whether you’re waiting for a rider or a trip takes longer than expected, we want it to be easier to understand when you’re earning more for the extra time.
