Safety features to help while you drive
You deserve to be able to go wherever the opportunity is. Get there with support on the road and technology that helps protect you and those around you.
Face coverings are no longer required
In line with Government guidance, riders and drivers are no longer required to wear masks or face coverings when using Uber. However, it is still strongly encouraged.
Remember: many people still feel safer wearing a mask, so please be respectful of their preferences. And if you ever feel uncomfortable, you can always cancel the trip.
Updating our no-front-seat policy
Riders are no longer required to sit in the back seat. However, to give drivers space and allow for safe exit on either side of the vehicle, we ask that riders only use the front seat if it’s required because of the size of their group.
Thank you for helping take care of one another
We know the pandemic has been difficult. But you’ve continued to go the extra mile to help protect our communities—whether it’s wearing a face covering, making space for one another, or giving drivers the respect they deserve. Thank you for that.
It’s still important to take safety precautions while riding and driving. So make sure to roll down the windows for extra airflow, sanitise your hands before and after trips when possible, and always cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
Designing a safer experience
Features to help keep you safe
The app is built with technology to help you stay connected to your loved ones, our team and emergency services, so you can go even further.
Help if you need it
Specially trained incident response teams are available at any time right from the app.
An inclusive community
Through our joint efforts with cities and safety experts, and by working together, we’re helping to create safe journeys for everyone.
Peace of mind, wherever you go
Safety is designed into the experience. So you feel comfortable driving at night. So you can tell loved ones where you’re going. And so you know you have someone to turn to if anything happens.*
Emergency assistance button
You can use the in-app emergency button to call the authorities and get help if you need it. The app displays your location and trip details, so you can share them with emergency services quickly.
24/7 incident support
Uber customer associates trained in incident response are available around the clock.
Follow my trip
Friends and family can follow your route and will know as soon as you arrive.
Your feedback matters. Low-rated trips are logged, and users may be removed to protect the Uber community.
If you need to contact your rider through the app, your phone number may stay private.
All Uber trips are tracked from start to finish, so there’s a record of your trip if something happens.
Using sensors and GPS data, RideCheck can help detect if a trip has an unexpected long stop or a possible crash has occurred. If we notice such events, we’ll check on you and offer tools to get help.¹
Tips for smooth, safe pick-ups
Your safety is our top priority. That’s why we’re asking you and your riders to double-check all details before they get in, to ensure extra peace of mind right from the start.
Before the trip begins, riders are advised to check your car number plate number, make and model, as well as your driver photo and name.
You can ask riders to confirm your name too. You could say “Hi, who is your driver?” or “Can you confirm my name, please? It should be displayed in your app.”
Safer roads for everyone, thanks to you
You play a key role in helping make cities safer and roads friendlier to move around on.
In the UK, we’ve created additional training resources so you can potentially make a real difference and help make communities safer.
Staying focused while driving
The app reminds you that you’re driving within the posted speed limit and to take healthy breaks, so you’re alert behind the wheel.
Local laws and advice from law enforcement officials offer ways you can help make a big difference in your safety and that of the people around you.
Strengthening our community
Uber’s Community Guidelines help riders and drivers enjoy a stress-free trip. Anyone who doesn’t follow the guidelines may be at risk of being removed from the platform for the safety of the entire Uber community.
