Mind the gap: What UK travel managers need to know about ground transport in 2026

Uber for Business has released a new interactive report, Mind the gap: Bridging the experience–efficiency disconnect in UK business travel, showing how ground travel is often the least clearly defined part of UK travel programmes, despite its impact on costs, policy, and duty of care.

Drawing on 2025 research with frequent UK business travellers and travel decision‑makers, the interactive report captures the latest shifts in traveller behaviour and programme priorities that will influence decisions in 2026 and beyond. It looks at how everyday journeys are booked, paid for, and managed inside organisations, and shines a light on where friction shows up for travellers and the teams who support them.

For travel managers, the findings bring three tensions into focus:

  • A gap between what travellers value vs what programmes optimise: Employees look for speed, comfort, and minimal admin; leaders are measured on cost, policy adherence, and reporting. When these needs don’t align, off‑policy bookings and incomplete data increase.

  • Flexibility that adds friction: Allowing people to “use what works for them” can lead to multiple apps, personal accounts and scattered receipts, driving more admin for travellers travel teams, while risking duty of care.

  • Strong sustainability intent, limited follow‑through: Both employees and managers say lower‑emission options matter, but those preferences rarely show up consistently in bookings.

Streamline ground travel while maintaining employee flexibility

This interactive report looks at how UK organisations are navigating these pressures today, and shares practical suggestions for bridging employee expectations and company priorities for the year ahead.
