WAV training

Whether you drive a wheelchair accessible vehicle or not, all NYC TLC driver license applicants must complete a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) class. See below for details about how to schedule your training.

How to sign up

Two ways to take the WAV class

Option 1: Schedule a class at a Greenlight Hub

The WAV course is taught at Uber’s Long Island City Greenlight Hub, through a partnership with the TLC Driver Institute, free of charge for new applicants.

Option 2: Take class at a TLC-approved school

  1. Visit
  2. Click the yellow box at the bottom of the page that reads “Wheelchair Passenger Assistance Training”
  3. Choose from any of the WAV class providers listed

Important WAV information

A TLC application number is required to sign up

If you do not provide your TLC application number when you schedule your WAV class, you must bring your TLC application number on the day of the class or you will not be admitted.

Finished with the WAV class?

Once you're done with the WAV class, your course provider will notify the TLC. You do not need to send anything to the TLC. Sign up for the 24-hour FHV course next.
