Uploading your documents
To drive using the Driver app, you are required to upload certain documents to get your account set up. Refer to the information below when uploading each document.
Required documents
- Driver's license
- Vehicle insurance and registration
- Background check
- Profile photo
These documents are required across the US, but if you visit a local Greenlight Hub or review your city's local information, you can get potential additional requirements for driving on the Uber platform.
Tips for uploading documents
Following these suggestions and rules when uploading your documents can help the process go smoother.
Make sure all required details are clearly visible
Ensure that your document contains all required details before uploading. The entire document should be clearly visible.
Upload your driver's license first
This will speed up the approval process when we need to cross-check your license with other documents.
Upload one image or PDF at a time
You can go here to get more information about uploading your documents through the Driver app.
Original documents only
We do not accept photocopied documents, so please make sure you only upload original documents.
It may take up to 48 hours for your documents to be reviewed and verified.
Document details
Driver's license
All uploaded licenses must clearly show the following information:
- Date issued
- License number
- DOB (date of birth); drivers must be 21 or older
- Expiration date
Vehicle insurance
All drivers using the Driver app must have a valid insurance document on file. In order for an insurance document to be approved in our system, we must see the following information clearly:
- Name of insurance company
- Driver's name listed as the policy holder or as an approved driver for the vehicle being used on the Uber platform (if your name is listed on another page as an approved driver, please upload all relevant pages)
- Current dates of coverage (example: November 1, 2019 – November 1, 2020)
- Vehicle identification number (VIN)
- For livery: A combined single limit of $1 million is required and clearly stated
Please note: even though Massachusetts only requires your registration as proof of insurance, you must upload a separate insurance document with the information listed above.
Vehicle registration
All registrations should show the following information:
- Registration number (matches license plate of registered vehicle)
- Effective date and expiration date
- Vehicle identification number (VIN)
- Vehicle descriptors: model year, make, model, body style/type, color
To make sure documents are consistent with one another and up to date, we'll compare a driver's insurance, license, and registration documents to ensure that VIN numbers, license plate numbers, and names match.
Proof of inspection
All vehicles operating on the Uber platform in Massachusetts must upload proof of a recent (within 12 months) safety inspection. Safety inspections from Massachusetts or the state of vehicle registration are accepted. Check out some valid examples below.
State safety inspection report
You may upload a copy of your full inspection report. A report is only valid if it clearly shows the following:
- VIN
- License plate
- Date of expiration
- Passed inspection result
A PDF copy of your vehicle’s Massachusetts inspection report can be found using this database.
Exterior inspection sticker
You may upload a photo of your inspection sticker taken from outside your vehicle. Exterior stickers are only valid if they clearly show the following:
- VIN
- Date of expiration
- State of inspection
