- What is Uber Assist?
Uber Assist is designed to provide light kerb-to-kerb assistance for riders with different accessibility needs on their trip, including people with disability, older Australians, pregnant women, and individuals who are injured or unwell.
- What should I expect from my Uber Assist driver?
Drivers offering Assist trips complete training on how to best support riders. This includes getting out of the car at pickup and drop-off, and, if requested, providing light physical assistance to help you safely get in and out of the car. Drivers can also help with loading and unloading bags or mobility aids, such as folding wheelchairs or walkers, that can fit in the boot of a standard sedan once folded or taken apart.
Please note that drivers are not expected to help riders with other daily tasks.
- Are wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAVs) available on Uber Assist?
Uber Assist currently doesn’t include drivers who offer a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) option. However, if your wheelchair or mobility aids can be folded or taken apart to fit in the boot of a car, then Uber Assist might be a suitable choice.
- Does Uber Assist cost extra?
Uber Assist fares are calculated the same way as Uber X, with an extra $5 Driver Assistance Fee added on top of the total trip fare. This fee acknowledges the extra time and support that might be needed. Please note, drivers keep 100% of the Driver Assistance Fee.
- Where is Uber Assist available?
Uber Assist is currently available in all major cities. Check the app to see if it's available in your area.
- What additional training or experience do Uber Assist drivers have?
Drivers providing Uber Assist trips are highly rated, experienced, and have completed additional disability awareness training modules. This training helps driver-partners understand different disabilities and how they can affect riders when travelling. It also offers guidance on how they can provide thoughtful, practical support and accommodate common mobility aids, such as a folding wheelchair or walker.
- How can I let the driver know about my accessibility needs ahead of time?
You can customise your accessibility settings in the app (select Account > Settings > Accessibility), including:

- What if my driver refuses to help?
If a driver doesn't meet expectations, you can report the issue through the Help Centre in the Uber app.
- Can I bring my assistance animal in the car with me?
Yes, all drivers are legally required to accept riders with assistance animals. You can find out more about Uber’s assistance animal policy here.
- Can I request an Uber Assist trip for a family member or friend?
- Can Assist drivers provide door-to-door service?
Uber Assist provides kerb-to-kerb support and does not include door-to-door service.
