Online Topographical Preparation

Once you have submitted your TfL private hire application, you will be invited to book in for a topographical (map-reading) test. Make sure to prepare thoroughly beforehand with our online materials and in-person preparation sessions.

How to book the topographical test

Once you have submitted your private hire application, you will be invited to book in with TfL for a topographical test at a test centre of your choice.

You can choose to sit your test at the Uber Ignition Centre for £50. This cost will include a retake of your test if you fail your first attempt. Payment will be taken on the day of your test by card payment only. Click here for directions to our centre.

For more information please see the TfL website and call TfL on 0343 222 4444 to book in for a test date. We recommend securing a test date as soon as possible and completing all of our preparation steps below.

How to prepare for the assessment

  1. The test contains 5 key modules on map-reading. Watch all the videos below for an overview of each module.
  2. Complete the online training questions
  3. Once you have completed the online training questions, you’ll be able to book in for an in-person training session by speaking to one of our Experts at the Piccadilly office.

We would recommend purchasing a Master Atlas of Greater London for home study.
