Perth vehicle requirements

Drive with Uber in Perth

Does your vehicle qualify to drive with Uber? Most 4-door cars do, but requirements vary depending on the vehicle option you choose. If you don’t own a car, we may be able to connect you with a vehicle solutions provider.

Uber’s minimum requirements

All cars driving with Uber in Perth must be:

  • In excellent working condition
  • No older than the maximum age for the Uber vehicle option chosen
  • A 4-door car or passenger van
  • No more than 8-seats, including the driver’s seat
  • Able to pass a vehicle inspection
  • Are registered with 3F motor injury insurance in Western Australia
  • Have an Omnibus - Charter Vehicle licence
  • Free from cosmetic damage and commercial branding

Other minimum rules apply to specific vehicle options.

Insurance

All vehicles driving with Uber must be covered by 3F motor injury insurance (MII), and have at least third-party property damage insurance. To drive with uberX, you also need to be listed on the car’s property damage insurance policy, even if you are not the vehicle owner or main policyholder. UberBLACK vehicles need to be commercially insured.

Perth vehicle options

These are the vehicle options and requirements in Perth

uberX

Most newer cars qualify to drive with uberX, the most popular vehicle option for riders - an everyday ride at an affordable price.

uberX vehicles:

  • Are in excellent working condition, with no cosmetic damage
  • Are registered with 3F motor injury insurance in Western Australia
  • Are 10 years old or less (2009 model or newer as of 2019)
  • Have 4 doors
  • Seat 4-7 passengers plus the driver
  • Have working windows and air conditioning
  • Are able to pass a vehicle inspection
  • Have an Omnibus - Charter Vehicle licence
  • Are not taxis, ex-driving school, government, branded or rebuilt vehicles

Some rental vehicles may be eligible to drive with uberX.

UberSELECT

A step above the everyday. Mid-tier luxury sedans command higher fares - see our list of eligible vehicle models. In some circumstances, additional models may qualify.

UberSELECT vehicles:

  • Are in excellent working condition, with no cosmetic damage
  • Are registered with 3F motor injury insurance in Western Australia
  • Are 10 years old or less (2009 model or newer as of 2019). Some models have higher minimum year requirements - see the Eligible Vehicle Models list for more details.
  • Have 4-doors
  • Seat 4 passengers plus the driver
  • Have working windows and air conditioning
  • Are able to pass a vehicle inspection
  • Have an Omnibus - Charter Vehicle licence
  • Are not taxis, ex-driving school, government, branded or rebuilt vehicles

In order for driver-partners to be eligible for UberSELECT, they must have

  • A 4.6 minimum rating; and
  • Have completed over 50 trips

uberXL

SUVs and vans can seat extra passengers, so that you can earn higher fares. This is the high-capacity version of uberX.

uberXL vehicles:

  • Are in excellent working condition, with no cosmetic damage
  • Are registered with 3F motor injury insurance in Western Australia
  • Are 10 years old or less (2009 model or newer as of 2019)
  • Are 4-door SUVs or large passenger vehicles
  • Seat 6-7 passengers plus the driver
  • Have working windows and air conditioning
  • Can pass a vehicle inspection
  • Have an Omnibus - Charter Vehicle licence
  • Are not taxis, ex-driving school, government, branded or rebuilt vehicles

Some rental vehicles may be eligible to drive with uberXL.

Assist

This option is designed for riders living with disability, older adults, or those who need an extra hand when getting from place to place. Assist vehicles can accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers, and collapsible scooters. You’ll also need to complete a free training course provided by Australian Network on Disability.

Assist vehicles:

  • Are in excellent working condition, with no cosmetic damage
  • Are deemed easy to access for passengers
  • Are registered with 3F motor injury insurance in Western Australia
  • Are 10 years old or less (2009 model or newer as of 2019)
  • Have 4 doors
  • Seat 4-7 passengers plus the driver
  • Have working windows and air conditioning
  • Are able to pass a vehicle inspection
  • Have an Omnibus - Charter Vehicle licence
  • Are not taxis, ex-driving school, government, branded or rebuilt vehicles
  • Can accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers, collapsible scooters, and other assistive devices

In order for driver-partners to be eligible for Assist, they must have

  • A 4.7 minimum rating; and
  • Have completed over 100 trips

Some rental vehicles may be eligible to drive with Assist.

UberBLACK

Offer luxury rides with UberBLACK, which connects riders with professional hire car drivers for a 5-star experience.

UberBLACK vehicles:

  • Are in excellent working condition, with no cosmetic damage
  • Are registered with 3F motor injury insurance in Western Australia
  • Are 6 years old or less (model 2013 as of 2019)
  • Are 4-door luxury vehicles
  • Comfortably seat 4 passengers plus the driver
  • Have an Omnibus - Charter Vehicle licence
  • Have commercial vehicle insurance
  • Are black, grey or white in colour

Uber Eats

Uber Eats is a food delivery app that allows people to order food from their favourite local restaurants at the tap of a button. You can deliver with Uber Eats using your car, scooter or even your bicycle.

There are 3 ways to deliver with UberEATS:

Bike requirements

  • You’re at least 18 years old
  • You can ride a bike around Perth
  • You can pass a background check

Scooter/motorcycle requirements

  • You’re at least 18 years old
  • You hold an Australian motorcycle licence (provisional or full)
  • Your scooter or motorcycle is a 1990 model or newer
  • Your scooter or motorcycle is registered and CTP-insured in Western Australia
  • You have vehicle insurance (third-party property or comprehensive)
  • You can pass a background check

Car requirements

  • You’re at least 18 years old
  • You hold a full Australian licence
  • Your car is a 1990 model or newer
  • Your car is registered and CTP-insured in Western Australia
  • You have vehicle insurance (third-party property or comprehensive)
  • You can pass a background check

You'll also need to confirm that you have the right to work in Australia and that you have access to Medicare or relevant health insurance.

UberEATS

UberEATS is a food delivery app that allows people to order food from their favourite restaurants at the tap of a button. If you are 18 years of age or older, you may be eligible to become a delivery partner with UberEATS.
