Reliable trips keep riders coming back to the Uber app. With this goal in mind, we’re piloting Advantage Mode, a new pilot program in select markets¹ to offer higher earnings and more exclusive ride requests to highly rated drivers who accept more often, cancel less, and get riders where they need to go safely.
This program will launch on the following dates in these select markets:
- July 10th: Sarasota
- July 15th: Austin; Charlotte; Columbus; Kansas City, KS/MO; Miami; Nashville; Phoenix; and Tampa
Read on to learn more about the difference between Advantage Mode and Standard Mode, how to become eligible for Advantage Mode, and all about the new Driving Insights dashboard and score.²
Understanding Advantage Mode and Standard Mode
Advantage Mode
When drivers are in Advantage Mode, they will receive more exclusive ride requests³ sent directly to them and earn 5% more⁴ on UberX and other non-premium ride types, including Trip Radar matches, than they would in Standard Mode. The extra 5% earnings will be reflected in the ride request fare on the offer card. Drivers in Advantage Mode will continue to have access to Trip Radar and access to exclusive trip requests at airport queues.
Advantage Mode perks are only applicable for ride requests originating in the select pilot markets.¹
Standard Mode
When drivers are in Standard Mode, more of their ride requests are received through Trip Radar, where drivers can view, accept, and browse ride requests. Trip Radar lets drivers see map routes, easily browse requests with a swipe, and compare trips at a glance. Also, declining a Trip Radar request won’t affect their acceptance rate. When in Standard Mode, drivers will receive only Trip Radar offers at airport queues, but will still be eligible for Rematch requests, where available. Learn more about Trip Radar.
New drivers automatically begin in Standard Mode.⁵ As they accept more trips, keep their cancellation rate low, and earn good star ratings, they can work towards becoming eligible for Advantage Mode.
Becoming eligible for Advantage Mode
Each day, driver’s criteria will be checked between 4-5am local time to determine their eligibility for Advantage Mode for that day.⁷ If they meet the following eligibility criteria, they will be in Advantage Mode for the day.
Acceptance rate⁶ | 25% or more |
Cancellation rate⁶ | 8% or less |
Star rating | at least 4.85 |
Driving Insights score | 75 or more |

Knowing which mode you’re in
Drivers in the pilot can check which mode they are in for the day by swiping through the tracker card at the top of the homescreen of their Driver app.
Drivers will be able to view all of their driver stats in the Profile Hub by going to the menu and clicking their profile picture.
Driving Insights
Powered by Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), experts in safe driving analytics, the new Driving Insights dashboard provides drivers with useful information about their driving, including an overall score and how it compares to other drivers in their area. This information can help identify areas in which they may want to improve their driving. Drivers in the pilot markets² will be able to view their dashboard in the Safety Hub by tapping the blue shield on the home screen of the Driver app.
The initial Driving Insights score is generated based on the first 20 trips completed after receiving access to Driving Insights.
A Driving Insights score of 75 or more is an eligibility requirement for Advantage Mode.
What is Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT)?
Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) is a leading telematics provider whose mission is to make the world’s roads and drivers safer. Like many insurance companies, Uber is partnering with CMT to give drivers more insights into their driving behaviors, and information on how they can drive more safely.
How Driving Insights works
CMT uses a driver’s phone sensor data to generate insights and a score based on their driving. These include speeding, hard braking, harsh accelerating, sharp turning, and phone handling.
How to understand the Driving Insights dashboard and score
Drivers will have access to a dashboard that can help them stay on top of their driving trends, breaking down what they’re doing well, suggesting areas for improvement, and offering tips for better driving practices. Drivers can see how their score compares to other drivers in their area.
Where to find the Driving Insights dashboard and score
Drivers in select markets will be able to find their Driving Insights dashboard and score in the Safety Hub by tapping the blue shield on the homescreen of the Driver app.
¹This pilot program is applicable in the following markets only: on 7/10/24: Sarasota, on 7/15/24: Austin; Charlotte; Columbus; Kansas City, KS/MO; Miami; Nashville; Phoenix; and Tampa. Uber reserves the right to change or terminate this program at any time.
²Driving Insights may also be available as a pilot in other markets.
³The following ride types are not eligible for more exclusive ride requests while in Advantage Mode: delivery trips (such as Uber Eats and Uber Connect), Tasks, Hourly, Uber XShare, Uber Wait & Save, Uber Black, Uber Black SUV, Uber Premier, Uber Premier SUV, Uber WAV and Uber Reserve.
⁴Available only to drivers taking eligible non-premium rides in Advantage Mode. Delivery trips (such as Uber Eats and Uber Connect), Tasks, Hourly, Uber Reserve, Uber Black, Uber Black SUV, Uber WAV, Uber Premier, and Uber Premier SUV trips are not eligible for 5% additional Advantage Mode earnings. Certain earnings such as Quest promotions, tips, wait time fees, cancel fees, tolls, and other third-party fees and operational expenses as stated on your receipt are not included in the calculation of 5% additional Advantage Mode earnings. Uber does not guarantee drivers will experience higher earnings than earnings received prior to the pilot. Additional earnings while in Advantage Mode will be shown as a separate payout on the trip receipt and weekly earnings statement and is in comparison to eligible earnings that a driver in Standard Mode would earn for the exact same trip.
⁵⁶Acceptance rates and cancellation rates include both rides and deliveries, and are calculated based on the last 100 exclusive requests received for acceptance rate and the last 100 accepted requests for cancellation rate after December 2021. For new drivers, acceptance rate starts calculating after receiving the first 10 exclusive ride or delivery trips. Cancellation rate starts calculating after the first 10 accepted ride or delivery trips.
⁷Your Mode will be determined between 4-5am local time each day and may change daily. The Mode showing in your app after 5am will be your Mode for that day; any Mode shown prior to 4am may not be final. You will not receive 5% additional earnings on eligible trips unless you have qualified for Advantage Mode for that day.
