Frequently asked questions

  • Uber Assist fares are calculated in the same way as Uber X, with an additional $5 Driver Assistance Fee applied on top of the total trip fare. This fee is to recognise the additional time and support that may be required. Note, drivers keep 100% of the Driver Assistance Fee.

  • Yes, you will continue to receive your regular UberX requests along with Assist requests.

  • To provide a more consistent and reliable experience for riders, driver-partners must now meet the following criteria to offer Uber Assist trips:

    • Maintain a minimum rating of 4.85 or above.
    • Provide vehicles that can accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers, and collapsible scooters. Note that wheelchair-accessible ramps or lifts are not required.
    • Maintain a high standard of safety on the Uber app.
    • Complete a free, short disability awareness course (~15-20 minutes), which includes the Australian Network on Disability module. This education provides guidance on providing support, such as safely exiting your vehicle to meet riders, helping them enter and exit the vehicle, and providing reliable kerb-to-kerb assistance.

If you are eligible, check your email and in-app inbox for an invitation to take the education course once you have completed your 20th trip on the Uber platform. You’ll start receiving Assist trip requests soon after completion.

  • Every partner invited to Assist drives a vehicle that should be able to accommodate an assistive device, such as a folding wheelchair or collapsible scooter. It’s a good idea to always leave space in your boot, as you never know when you might get an Assist request. If your vehicle cannot safely fit your rider’s assistive device, you can cancel the trip and contact Support to let us know why.

  • When you receive a request, ‘Assist’ will appear at the top of the request screen.

  • Yes, if you no longer wish to receive Assist trips, you can opt out in your preferences.

  • Yes, all drivers are required by law to accept riders with assistance animals. Learn more about Uber’s Service Animal Policy in the link below.
