Autonomous Uber rides with Avride in Dallas, TX
Uber has partnered with Avride to make autonomous rides available through the Uber app in Dallas.
How autonomous vehicles on Uber work
If you’ve already opted in for autonomous rides on your Uber profile, you may be matched with an AV when requesting an eligible ride from a qualifying location in Dallas. UberX, Uber Comfort, and Uber Comfort Electric rides are all eligible to be matched with an Avride vehicle.*
If you’re matched with an Avride autonomous vehicle, you’ll get a ride offer in your Uber app letting you know. From there, select Accept ride and an Avride Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be on its way to pick you up.
One-step access
When you’re ready to get in, you can unlock the Avride vehicle by choosing Unlock car in your Uber app.
Plenty of room
Autonomous Avride vehicles on Uber can seat up to 3 riders, and the cars offer ample trunk storage.
How to be matched with an Avride vehicle on Uber in Dallas
Turn on autonomous vehicles in your Ride Preferences in the Uber app to boost your chances of matching with an AV the next time you request UberX, Uber Comfort, or Uber Comfort Electric.
Follow the steps below to opt in to autonomous rides in Dallas:
1. Make sure you’re using the most up-to-date version of the Uber app available in the App Store or Google Play
2. Open the app and select "Account" in the bottom right corner
3. Choose "Settings"
4. Scroll down to Ride Preferences and select "Autonomous vehicles"
5. Toggle to On to try to get more Avride rides

- How do pickup and dropoff work with an Avride ride in Dallas?
When the Avride vehicle has arrived at your pickup location, check that the vehicle details (license plate, car make/model) match what’s in the Uber app. When you’re ready to hop in, you can unlock the vehicle by choosing Unlock car in the Uber app. Upon reaching your destination, make sure you have all your belongings, and exit as you would with any other rideshare vehicle. - Can I bring other passengers on my Uber trip in an autonomous vehicle?
Yes. Just like typical Uber rides, passengers are welcome to join you on your Uber trip in an autonomous vehicle. Currently, all Avride vehicles can accommodate up to 3 riders total, seated in the back seat of the vehicle.
- Are pets permitted in Avride vehicles?
As a courtesy to other riders who may have allergies, we do not currently allow pets in Avride vehicles. Service animals, however, are always welcome in accordance with our Service Animal and Assistive Device Policy.
- How long will the AV wait for me?
Uber customers have 7 minutes to board their autonomous vehicle.
- Can I communicate with a person if I need help during the ride?
If you ever need help during a ride, you can contact support through the Uber app. Plus, Uber’s safety features—accessible by selecting the blue safety shield in the app—are always available to help ensure a smooth experience.
