While uberPOOL maximizes your time on-trip and reduces the amount of time you’re waiting for your next trip, we heard from you that picking up multiple riders headed in the same direction can be stressful. Because of that, we think your fares should reflect the extra work you’re doing.
You’ll now be paid an additional base fare each time you stop for another uberPOOL pickup. What does that mean in terms of your uberPOOL earnings?
Old:
You received one base fare and a per min/per mile rate for each uberPOOL trip—regardless of how many riders you pick up.
- A base fare is the initial rider fare before per minute per mile rates are applied.
- The per min/per mile rate is the set dollar amount that is paid for every minute and mile you drive.
- Your earnings on an uberPOOL trip was then affected by a service fee—the percentage of each fare that is paid to Uber—and surge, which increases the total fare of the trip before service fees are applied.
New:
Under the new fare structure, you will now receive a base fare for every uberPOOL pickup you make. Everything else stays the same. That means more money in your pocket the more uberPOOL riders you pick up.

But don’t worry, for a short ride you’ll still receive the $5.30 minimum fare—that’s the lowest possible fare you earn before service fees are taken out regardless of the length of a trip.
We recognize the pain points with uberPOOL and are continually trying to improve this product for riders and drivers. We hope this update to your payment structure is a step in the right direction. Thank you for all you do!
