Virginia Partner Regulatory Requirements
As a partner, you have the opportunity to be your own boss. However, per our temporary authority granted by the State of Virginia, you must be aware of and comply with the following:
DISPLAY “U” SIGN WHILE OPERATING ON THE UBER SYSTEM
Our new Operating Authority requires all ridesharing vehicles operating on the Uber system to have the “U” sign (trade dress) on the passenger side rear window. Starting October 1st, 2014, you could get a ticket for failing to have the proper trade dress displayed.
PERMIT ACCESS TO ALL SERVICE ANIMALS
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, service animals must be permitted to accompany riders with disabilities to any business that serves the public. Uber expects all of its partners to conduct themselves in a legally compliant manner.
If Uber receives rider complaints that you refused to abide by the law and transport a service animal, Uber will have to end its partnership with you.
If you are not certain that an animal is a service animal, feel free to ask the rider. If they say it is a service animal, you must abide by the law and accept it.
As always, riders are responsible for cleanup fees for damage to the interior or exterior of the vehicle that may occur during a ride. Please take and send us pictures of such damage if clean-up is required.
DO NOT ACCEPT STREET HAILS
All rides should be booked through the app. Soliciting or accepting street hails is a violation of Uber’s policy and several regulations in local jurisdictions throughout the DC Metro area. Partners who violate this policy will be deactivated and will no longer have access to the Uber platform.
KEEP YOUR INSURANCE IN YOUR VEHICLE
You should carry proof of your personal insurance with you in your vehicle at all times.
IMMEDIATELY INFORM US OF ANY CHANGE IN YOUR LICENSE STATUS, REGISTRATION, INSURANCE AND/OR CRIMINAL RECORD.
This includes any change in the your driver’s license status, motor vehicle registration, or motor vehicle insurance. It also includes any arrest or charge for a crime or driving offense, including any arrest or charge that would require you to register on the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry or on the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Sex Offenders Public Website.
USE YOUR MOBILE DEVICES SAFELY
You should always operate your smartphone, including any phones issued by Uber, and any other mobile devices in a manner consistent with the local laws.
CONSULT WITH APPROPRIATE PROFESSIONALS REGARDING ANY CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR PARTNERSHIP
We recommend that partners consult with appropriate professionals and authorities regarding the possible financial and contractual consequences of operating as an Uber partner, including consequences for personal income tax and tangible personal property tax liabilities, personal insurance coverage, and financing agreements with vehicle lienholders.
