Military Driven in Los Angeles

The UberMILITARY program is a nationwide commitment to onboard veterans and members of the military family onto the Uber platform. By partnering with Uber, veterans can find full or part-time work during their transition to civilian life or a lasting career as an Uber partner. Active duty spouses have the opportunity to find consistent work as they are moved from base to base both in the United States and abroad.

Today, we were thrilled to join with some of our over 200 UberMILITARY partners in the Los Angeles area to share stories about both military life and what lies ahead with Uber. UberMILITARY partners also met with local veterans interested in becoming Uber drivers to discuss employment opportunities and help them get started. A huge thanks to Work for Warriors and all the local leaders that joined us today!

Our UberMILITARY partners come from all four branches, and each individual brings a unique background and set of experiences to their Military Driven careers. From veterans to active duty spouses, drivers across the Southland partner with Uber for flexible earning opportunities that keep them connected to service. We caught up with John and Jessica to learn more about why they drive and what UberMILITARY means to them:

After 6 years in the Air Force and tours in Iraq and Qatar, I left the service disabled and struggled to find work. There isn’t much demand in the civilian sector for someone with ammunition experience. Uber has helped me make the transition and find meaningful work despite my disability. I drive when I want and am able to earn a living on my terms.

Uber allows me to drive as a second source of income so that I can save up to sail around the world. I live on my sailboat in Redondo Beach, but drive across Los Angeles. After twelve years in the Navy, it’s great to have the opportunity to continue to meet so many interesting people from so many diverse cultures. I traveled all over the world in the military, and driving in LA, I always have a rider from a different country in the car ready to share a story or learn something about the U.S. Uber is flexible, good-paying work that keeps me connected to my community.
