Uber partners aren’t only interested in solving transportation challenges. Many also focus their efforts on our islands’ long-term sustainability. Jim is an uberX partner who founded Bokashi Bucket – an easy and clean home composting solution. The idea came to Jim after he taught his 7th-grade class about aquaponics and sustainability. He was inspired by the amazing impact it had on his students and the amount of interest generated. Since then, building Bokashi Bucket and promoting sustainability have become his passion. Driving with Uber has allowed Jim to hit business goals at a much quicker pace. Leveraging the flexibility and earnings from the Uber platform, Jim is able to invest more time in his other business and passion.

Our partners have also taught us that driving isn’t always a solo pursuit. Jordan and Jennifer, a true power couple, have been Uber driver-partners since we launched uberX in Hawaii back in June of 2014. This husband and wife team are partners in every sense of the word. Together they own Wheelers Van Rentals of Hawaii, a service that provides quality mobility van rentals throughout Maui and Oahu. Jordan and Jennifer both appreciate the flexibility that being a driver-partner brings because it allows them to enjoy the lifestyle they love while meeting new people.

Many small business owners use Uber as a way to stay above water, but Nick, a driver-partner since October 2014, had other plans. He is the owner and co-founder of EasyBreath Snorkel Rentals. His company delivers full face snorkel masks as rentals, a first of its kind in Hawaii. The full face snorkel gives you 180º vision and allows you to breathe normally through your mouth or nose while snorkeling. Nick is a certified lifeguard, and his company also gives lessons at Ala Moana Beach Park. From time to time, his riders ask him about his business, and he connects them to his website in true entrepreneurial form.
