Celebrating International Women’s Day with London’s pioneering women
6 March 2019 / United Kingdom
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is #BalanceforBetter, because better balance, means a better world. To mark the day, we’re highlighting the pioneering women who have a blue plaque in London, and asking you to submit your own suggestions for new ones. On the 8 March, we’ll send you a message when you start your trip near to where one of these amazing women lived and worked.
Have your say
Women only make up a small amount of the blue plaques in London. We want to help change that balance. Do you know a pioneering woman who deserves her own plaque? You can make submissions to English Heritage, who manage the existing plaques.
On the streets with a new generation of pioneers
We also asked some of London’s most inspiring women to take us on a tour of the capital, where they’ll tell us more about the stories behind the blue plaques, and highlight other women who are currently inspiring change.
