Frequently Asked Questions

  • What price is the medical check?

The price for the commercial standards medical check is set by the individual practice. If the practice offers a discount to Uber driver-partners the discounted amount will be listed along with their contact details in the above map. It is recommended you check with the practice at the time of booking to ensure they are willing to offer the discount. It is also recommended you shop around to find the right location and price to suit your needs.

  • What is involved in the check?

The commercial standards medical check assesses your fitness to drive a public passenger vehicle and typically takes between 15 - 20 minutes. The health assessment does include a urinalysis to check your protein and glucose. Please note the urinalysis is not a drug test. More information about the medical check is available on the DTMR website.

  • What if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

If you have a pre-existing medical condition/s it is generally best to visit your treating physician who is familiar with your medical history. If you visit a different practice they may be required to refer you to a specialist or back to your treating physician, which may incur additional costs to you. It is recommended you bring along any information about your medical history or prescriptions to your appointment.

  • Can the cost be bulk billed?

Generally a commercial standards medical check cannot be bulk-billed, however this is best to check with the practice directly or with Medicare.

  • Will I need to go to an optometrist?

The entire check can generally be completed with your GP. However, if required the GP may refer you to an optometrist or specialist. If you wear glasses or contact lenses it is recommended you bring them along to your appointment.

  • Do I need to complete my medical before applying for my DA?

No, you can apply for your DA first if you wish. However, the DTMR will not be able to fully approve your DA until your medical check has been completed.

  • What forms do I need to take with me?

When you attend your appointment you will need to take along your completed application forms. These can be filled in through your online Uber login as part of your DA application. Or, you can download and print the forms from the TMR website.
