Minimum requirements
Most people can drive with Uber. The requirements vary by city but there are a few minimum requirements:
- Meet the minimum age requirement
- Be legally allowed to drive in your country
Required documents
Before hitting the road, share the documentation below:
- A valid Ontario G driver’s licence or equivalent
- Proof of work eligibility
- Proof of vehicle registration
- Proof of vehicle insurance
- Proof of vehicle inspection: Safety Standards Certificate
- Niagara Region TNC driver's licence
- A driver profile photo
- Must be a forward-facing, centered photo including the driver’s full face and top of shoulders, with no sunglasses
- Must be a photo only of the driver with no other subject in the frame, well-lit and in-focus and cannot be a driver’s license photo or other printed photograph

Requirements to drive in Ontario cities
- Background Screening
New and existing drivers must have a background screening passed within the last calendar year.
- Vehicle Requirements
- 7 years (2012 model year) or newer to drive in the City of Toronto, City of Mississauga, Town of Oakville, and Brampton.
- 10 years (2009 model year) or newer to drive elsewhere within the GTA.
- Vehicle Inspections
- New drivers must upload an SSC within 36 days of passing the inspection.
- Existing drivers must complete a vehicle inspection annually and upload an SSC within 36 days of passing the inspection.
- Driving Eligibility
City of Toronto, City of Mississauga, Town of Oakville, and Brampton:
If your signup city is within the GTA, you will be submitted for licensing once your documents are approved and the requirements above have been met. It will take up to 1 week for your licence to be processed and we'll send you an email you to let you know.
If your signup city is not within the GTA, please visit a Greenlight location to request access.
Greater Toronto Area (excluding Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, and Brampton):
If you signed up to drive in a different city, you can drive in the GTA (excluding Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, and Brampton) as long as you meet the above requirements.
- Regulatory Requirements
- Snow tires or all-weather tires must installed from December 1 until April 30 the following year for partners driving in Toronto and Mississauga.
- Local bylaw regulations require all drivers to display an Uber sticker o their vehicle while driving with Uber in Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, and Brampton.
- City bylaw regulators may request rides at any time to conduct vehicle and document inspections (read below to learn more).

10 years (2009 model year) or newer
- Vehicle Inspections
New drivers must upload an SSC within 36 days of passing the inspection.
Existing drivers must complete a vehicle inspection annually and upload an SSC within 36 days of passing the inspection.
- Driving Eligibility
- If your driver's licence address is in Barrie, your vehicle will be submitted for licensing once all documents are approved and the requirements above have been met. It will take up to 2 weeks for your licence to be processed and we'll send you an email you to let you know.
- Regulatory Requirements
Local bylaw regulations require all driver drivers to display an Uber sticker on their vehicle while driving with Uber in Barrie.
City bylaw regulators may request rides at any time to conduct vehicle and document inspections (read below to learn more).

- Background Screening
New and existing partners must have a background screening passed within the last calendar year.
- Vehicle Requirements
10 years (2009 model year) or newer
- Vehicle Inspections
- If your vehicle model is 5 years (2014 model year) or newer, it will require an inspection once per year.
- If your vehicle model is 6 years (2013 model year) or older, it will require an inspection twice per year (every 6 months).
- Driving Eligibility
If your signup city is Ottawa, you will be able to drive with Uber in Ottawa once you have met all the requirements above.
If your signup city is not Ottawa, please visit a Greenlight location to request access.
- Background Screening
- New drivers must have a background screening passed within the last 60 days.
- Existing drivers must pass a background screening once a year.
- Vehicle Requirements
10 years or newer
- Vehicle Inspections
- New drivers must have a SSC uploaded within the last 60 days.
- Existing drivers must complete an annual vehicle inspection and upload an SSC after each inspection.
- Driver Eligibility
Drivers in Ontario can drive in London as long as the above requirements are met.
- Regulatory Requirements
Local bylaw regulations require all drivers to display two Uber stickers on their vehicle while driving with Uber in London.
City bylaw regulators may request rides at any time to conduct vehicle and document inspections.

- To drive with Uber in the Niagara Region, drivers must have a Niagara Region TNC driver's licence issued by the Niagara Region Police.

Documents to keep in your car
City bylaw regulators may request rides at any time to conduct vehicle and document inspections.
Be sure to keep the following documents in your vehicle when driving with Uber:
- Driver's licence
- Vehicle registration
- Proof of insurance
- Safety Standards Certificate (SSC)
Also, make sure to have any required Uber sticker(s) placed on your vehicle.
