How to Get Access to Airport Trips
- If you’re new to the Uber platform, you’ll need to complete a few trips in Melbourne before you’re eligible for airport pickups.
- Once you’re eligible, we’ll email you, and ask you to agree to Melbourne Airport’s Terms & Conditions.
- If you choose to accept them, we’ll notify you when your access to Melbourne Airport has been activated.
Having trouble getting access? Contact our Support team for help.
Pickup Zones
Uber has exclusive pickup zones outside T1, T2 and T4.
PIN trips may be used when collecting your riders from T1 and T2 - more info below.
Dropoff Zones
When taking riders to the Airport, you’ll be navigated in-app to the public dropoff zones. You can find more info on MEL Airport’s website.
How to Take Airport Trips
Head to the Holding Lot and join the virtual queue * To be eligible for an airport trip, you must first go to the Primary Holding Lot, located on Francis Briggs Road (see map above). * Once there, you can join the virtual queue which will make you eligible to receive trip requests and you can proceed to the Secondary Holding Lot via the slip lane on Centre Road to wait for a trip request.
After accepting a trip request, head to the pick-up zone * When you receive and accept a trip request, follow the navigation in the Driver app to the correct pick-up zone. * Important: Do not proceed to the pick-up zone unless the app prompts you. Arriving without being prompted by the Driver app may result in loss of access to airport trips.
Arrive at the pick-up zone * Pull into a designated zone or bay to meet your rider. * Be sure not to block traffic and stay alert for pedestrians and other vehicles.
PIN Trips (UberX Only) * PIN is a feature designed to make airport pickups smoother during busy times. * For pickups at T1 and T2, the Uber Driver app will reposition you to the pick-up zone before matching you with a rider. * In this case, a rider will meet you at your vehicle and give you a six-digit PIN to confirm the trip.
You can watch the video below for more info on how to complete kerbside pick-ups at MEL T2 International. Watch here
Frequently asked questions
- When is a PIN required?
- PIN is only used for UberX trips from T1 Zone B or T2 Zone B
- PIN is not required for UberX at T4
- When should I ask for the PIN?
For UberX trips at T1 Zone B or T2 Zone B, always ask for the PIN before the rider enters your vehicle.
You can wind down your window and ask for it as they approach, or confirm it when greeting them at the kerb.
- Uber window stickers - do I need one?
Regulations require you to have a sticker identifying your vehicle as rideshare, at all times. If you see an Uber representative while at the airport, you can ask them for a sticker, or you can order one here (it’s free!).
In VIC, place the sticker on the top left corner of the front windscreen (passenger side).
- When is the best time to drive at the airport?
Information on flight arrivals is available on the feed in your Driver App and by tapping the airport marker on the map.
- How does short trip protection work?
If you receive a short trip request from MEL, we’ll let you know in the app before you accept that the trip is eligible for Priority Queue Access. With Priority Queue Access, you can jump to the front of the virtual queue if you rejoin within six hours. To be eligible for Priority Queue Access, you must be waiting in the airport queue for at least 15 minutes. Priority Queue Access is valid for 6 hours at the same airport even if you go offline or do other trips before returning to the airport.
- What if my rider cancels when I am on my way to pick them up?
If you get a rider cancellation when you’re already on your way to the terminals, you will be eligible to receive another trip request. If you do not receive a trip request shortly, you will need to return to the waiting lot to wait for the next available trip request.
