Checklist for accreditation

An overview of the ACT rideshare accreditation application process.

Before you begin

There are a number of things which Access Canberra must consider when assessing an application. This includes whether the applicant has:

  • been found guilty of offences under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cwlth);
  • been found guilty and convicted of an offence involving dishonesty, drugs, violence or driving offences; or,
  • contravened requirements, or the Minimum Service Standards, of a previous public passenger accreditation.

Steps in detail

The application process

1: WWVP Registration

Apply for Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration through Access Canberra.

2: Medical Assessment

Book and complete a medical check with your GP. Be sure to have your GP complete the medical form provided below.

3: Vehicle Inspection

Pass and obtain an ACT roadworthy certificate for your eligible vehicle.

Note: A vehicle inspection is not required if the vehicle has been registered less than 12 months, and was brand new when registered.

UPFRONT COST: $70.40 cost that you will need to pay your inspection provider

4: Vehicle Insurance

Ensure you have a copy of your comprehensive/third party vehicle insurance for your eligible vehicle. You will need to include this when you apply for a rideshare licence.

5: Apply online for Driver and Vehicle Rideshare Licences

Complete the online application forms available on the Access Canberra website in order to obtain a Rideshare Public Vehicle Driver Licence (RPVDL) and a Rideshare Vehicle Licence (RVL).

UPFRONT COST: $50 accreditation fee, $100 vehicle licence fee, and a CTP registration upgrade fee payable to Access Canberra.

Application forms:

NOTE: In order to complete the above forms, you will need to attach images of supporting documentation. See below for details.

  • One of the following documents:

    • Overseas Passport, or­
    • Australian Passport, or
    • Australian Birth Certificate, or
    • Australian Citizenship Certificate, or ImmiCard.
  • A copy of your Working with Vulnerable People Registration

  • A commercial driver health assessment not older than 6 months – unless you have submitted one in the previous 5 years
  • A passed and valid ACT roadworthy certificate
  • A copy of your public Liability Insurance policy endorsed for Rideshare with cover for at least $5,000,000.

Access Canberra will process your application and follow up with you directly should they require additional information.

6: Upload documents to your Uber profile

Once Access Canberra has accredited you and your vehicle for rideshare in the ACT, the final step is to upload a few documents to your Uber profile. The documents to upload are as follows:

  • Driver’s Licence (with a D-condition)
  • Vehicle Inspection (ACT Roadworthy)
  • Vehicle Insurance (Comprehensive/Third Party)
  • Vehicle Registration (with Rideshare CTPI)
  • Rideshare Vehicle Licence

Upload documents to your Uber profile

Once Access Canberra has accredited you and your vehicle for rideshare in the ACT, the final step is to upload a few documents to your Uber profile.

  • Vehicle Insurance (Comprehensive/Third Party)
  • Vehicle Registration (with Rideshare CTPI)
