Meet Mike, Dallas Dad and Uber Partner
Mike, an adopted Dallasite, graduated from SMU in the 1980s (Pony Up!) and began his 30-year-long career in sales. Unfortunately, in 2014, Mike’s life took a pivotal turn when he was laid off from his long-time job. Mike knew he had to act quick, and Uber was the perfect in-between job, because it provided a flexible economic opportunity that allowed him to provide for his daughter (who is headed off to college soon) while simultaneously search for a new job.
One year and over 4,000 rides later, Mike still enjoys interacting with people from all over and has even had a few reconnections from his childhood. Most notably, he has realized that this flexibility is hard to match.
“The flexibility is the best part of it. I can take off to have lunch or dinner with my daughter when I want to. Go to school events. Go to doctors appointments. I don’t miss anything significant in her life because of work now.”
We asked Mike to share a bit of advice he has for fellow fathers and potential Uber partners, and he replied, “Be a dad. Don’t let the pressures of life take that from you or your child/children. Uber gives a driver the flexibility to do just that.”
When Mike isn’t behind the wheel, you can catch him cheering on the cowboys (and he’s even had the privilege of driving a former player!) or watching a movie with his daughter. He is trying to get as much hang-time with his daughter before she starts college in the fall. Please join the Uber DFW team in thanking Mike for his five-star service!
