Uber Driven Women in San Diego
In 1995, world leaders followed a call by the United Nations and gathered in Beijing to produce an unprecedented plan for advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women everywhere.
Today, on the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, we are proud to share with The Uber Community that we are embarking on a new global partnership with UN Women with the goal of accelerating economic opportunity for women. As part of our commitment to this goal, Uber will create 1,000,000 jobs for women as drivers on the Uber platform by 2020.
Women in San Diego are already taking advantage of the safe, flexible and equitable earning opportunities offered by the Uber platform. Wanda, one of our top partners, is a philanthropist, professor, and community service leader. Here’s her story:
“I started driving in order to support my non-profit, so all the money I make goes directly into the non-profit. I really couldn’t get a part-time job with my schedule. In addition to my non-profit, I’m a professor of Quantum Physics. Uber was convenient, and I really started to like it.”
Why do you enjoy driving with Uber?
“I find that it gives me a sense of independence. It empowers me to go out and meet people. It has expanded my world view, getting to meet people from all over. I really enjoy the conversation.”
“There’s nothing on this planet that you should be doing that doesn’t make your heart sing.” – Wanda, Uber Partner
We held the first ever #UberDrivenWomen event here in San Diego, uniting the female entrepreneurs that have all chosen to be their own boss on the Uber platform. We were blown away by their stories and the impact they’re making within the community. For a glimpse into #UberDrivenWomen, check out the video below.
