On Tuesday night over 200 women driver-partners from Massachusetts joined Boston community leaders in the Seaport for a special event to celebrate the contribution of women who are helping move the state forward.

Thousands of women in Massachusetts have chosen to drive with Uber because of the flexibility and convenience it affords them to be their own boss and set their own schedules–driving whenever and however long they want. Every partner’s story is unique, but the women who drive with Uber overwhelmingly agree that one of the greatest benefits is the freedom and flexibility the platform provides to earn an income, while also accommodating the demands of their busy lives.

Uber has become increasingly popular among women in Massachusetts seeking news ways to earn money. In July, one third of new Uber partners were women.

This means more economic opportunities and more flexibility for thousands of women across the state. We’re so excited to grow this partnership and expand economic opportunities for more women across the Commonwealth.

Cathy Zhou, Uber Boston general manager, thanked the hundreds in attendance, including State Representative Danielle Gregoire and dozens of other leaders from the Boston community who came out to show appreciation for our partners and their role in increasing transportation options and expanding economic opportunity across the state.

Rep. Danielle Gregoire highlighted the importance of supporting innovative companies that are creating new economic opportunities for women.

“You are all amazing, driven women. From one fiercely independent woman to a room full of fiercely independent women, thank you for everything you do to keep Massachusetts moving.” – Rep. Danielle Gregoire

We were honored to hear from Marcia, Roberta and Lynne – partners from the South End, Cambridge and Marblehead, respectively – about why they chose to partner with Uber and how the flexibility of the platform helps them support and spend time with their families.

Why I Drive

Uber’s women partners are truly moving the state forward, and we’re thrilled to take this opportunity to recognize these entrepreneurs and show our appreciation for all they do in making Massachusetts a better place to live and work.

And special thanks to our raffle prize sponsors – Whole Foods, Rue La La, Wayfair.com, Scrub-a-Dub, Starwood Hotels, Laugh Boston, and Joint Ventures.
