View from The Roof at the Viceroy Hotel
Sometimes it feels good to look down on people. Not in that sense, but rather from a rooftop. And preferably with a cocktail in hand.
This week, we are in a rooftop-state-of-mind. So as we roll into the weekend, we thought we’d share our favorite spots where you can enjoy the view.
Go ahead — request an Uber and tell your driver to take you straight to one of these rooftops:
Sonny’s Soda Shoppe:
Cool off with a frozen limoncello at the Mondrian SoHo’s brand new rooftop bar. With its retro Italian beach club decor and fun, eclectic drink menu, Sonny’s Soda Shoppe will definitely be one of our go-to rooftop hangouts this summer.
The Roof:
Enter the nautical-inspired rooftop terrace and lounge at NYC’s The Viceroy Hotel and you’ll think you’ve just boarded a magnificent yacht. With soaring views of Central Park and bustling city streets below, you’ll feel like the Captain of Everything sipping small-batch bourbon on the terrace at dusk.
Northern Territory:
Stop by Greenpoint’s new addition, Northern Territory, around sunset and enjoy stunning views of Manhattan over some scrumptious schnitzel and a Such is Life cocktail (Smith & Cross Rum, Velvet Falernum, blended pineapple, sage and lime). The new hipster hangout has an Australian-inspired menu, and if you don’t make it there this weekend, you should still swing by during the week between 5-7pm for a $3 Fosters.
Bar Hugo:
One of the most anticipated rooftops of the season isn’t even open to the public yet, but it still belongs on this list since we plan on spending a lot of time there. Boasting some of the best views of the city, SoHo’s new Hotel Hugo will soon open its rooftop bar to the public with an inventive cocktail list and Italian small plates by the hotel’s restaurant, Il Principe.
Jimmy:
This is an oldie but a goodie (well, oldie in NYC nightlife years). Not far from Bar Hugo, the rooftop scene at The James Hotel is great for a relaxing day at the pool, complete with cocktails and Manhattan views.
McCarren Hotel:
RIP King & Grove Williamsburg. Hello, McCarren Hotel & Pool. The rebranded hotel and rooftop bar is great for a chill afternoon or evening. If it wasn’t for the DJ getting the party started, you’d almost want to just take a nap on the comfy cushions and pillows.
Gallow Green:
While this rooftop may already be old news to some, it is still worth mentioning since it wins for being the most magical. Once step onto The McKittrick Hotel’s Gallow Green rooftop you’ll be instantly transported to an Alice in Wonderland-meets-English-garden dream world. To top things off, the punch bowls are quite simply — delicious.
