Today marks the official start of Carnival season and all of the excitement leading up to Fat Tuesday. Tonight, the Phunny Phorty Phellows will start the party with their annual ride on the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar, and the Krewe of Joan of Arc will perform their regal march through the French Quarter.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Twelfth Night without a slice of the most famous treat of the season…King Cake! Today only, we’ve partnered up with our friends at Haydel’s Bakery to bring you on-demand King Cake that arrives in a matter of minutes.

KING CAKE LORE:

Eating King Cake during Carnival season is originally a French tradition that was brought to New Orleans long ago and lives on today. Each King Cake includes a prize–these days it’s a plastic baby hidden inside the cake. The person who receives the piece with the “baby” is considered “King” for the day and is expected to throw the next party… and provide the next King Cake.
