While many of our partners drive full time, others drive to supplement their income. Matt, one of our top uberX partners in New Jersey, fits the latter profile. Today, we’re going Behind the Wheel With Matt to learn more about his life on and off the Uber platform.
Born and raised in Staten Island, Matt now lives in New Jersey with his Australian cattle dog, Benny (named after Ben Roethlisberger). Every day, Matt commutes to Manhattan (by train, boat, or Uber), where he works in currency trading. As a trader, Matt has to work strange hours so he can make deals when markets are open on the other side of the world. These unusual hours make it easy for Matt to then supplement his full-time gig with another—driving with Uber.

Matt first became an Uber partner in October of 2013 after leaving his job on Wall Street. For five months, Uber was his main source of income. Considering the financial market’s unpredictability, Matt was happy he had found another job opportunity he could lean back on. These days, even with a full-time job in currency trading, Matt still finds the time to drive.
The social guy that he is, Matt loves being able to chat with riders when working on the Uber platform. Not only has he made friends while driving, but also new business clients. Since Matt lives close to Newark Airport, he can easily strategize by heading there at heavily trafficked airport hours and turning on the app. He also knows where all of the cheapest gas stations are nearby.
Matt’s favorite thing about being an Uber partner is that he gets to make it his own. “This is an opportunity for entrepreneurs and anyone who wants to make some extra money while being their own boss.”

- During his time on Wall Street, he worked with Sam, another one of our star uberX partners in New Jersey
- He drives a Mercedes S550 (quite possibly one of the most luxurious uberX rides you can find in NJ)
- He’s a big Steelers fan and loves watching football at the Steelers bar Texas Arizona in Hoboken
- He plays in a softball league
- During his free time, enjoys trying new restaurants and working out
