Vehicle inspections in Australia
For the safety of drivers and riders, Uber requires regular vehicle safety checks. You'll need to pass a vehicle inspection before you can start driving using the Uber app in Victoria. It's a good idea to check your car meets your city's requirements before having it inspected.
Book an inspection
All driver-partners need to pass a vehicle inspection before taking their first trip with Uber. As part of our ongoing commitment to safety and quality, we've partnered with several third-party vehicle inspection services, including Redbook that can provide you with vehicle safety checks. You will need to have your vehicle inspected every 12 months (depends on your city).
Uber driver-partners will need to cover the cost of their own annual inspections in Victoria, as is the case in other states in Australia.
Regulatory Requirements
Under commercial passenger vehicle regulations in Victoria, a vehicle driving on the Uber app must undergo an annual inspection to ensure they provide a safe experience for passengers. When ‘online’ and completing trips using the Uber Driver app, you are required to carry proof of your vehicle having passed an inspection and be able to produce this when asked by an officer from Safe Transport Victoria (STV).
To obtain this in Victoria, you can either book with Redbook Inspect who provide a STV-approved inspection process or you can book an inspection at any Licensed Vehicle Tester in Victoria to obtain a Roadworthy Certificate.
See locations of Licenced Vehicle Testers here or book with Redbook here.
