By popular demand, making Uber a family affair

As more people around the world use Uber to get around, their feedback has become an important source of inspiration for new app features. After all, no one knows how to improve the Uber experience better than the people who use it day in, day out.

Lots of riders have requested an easy way to pay for family and friends’ rides. It’s a great idea – and so we are excited to announce Family Profiles, a new feature that lets up to 10 riders share one payment method, safely and easily.

How it works:

For the Family Profile organiser:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of the Uber app.
2. Go to Menu and choose Settings.
3. Scroll down to “Add a Family Profile” and select the contacts you would like to add.
4. As soon as the Family Profile rider accepts the invitation, they can begin requesting rides from their own phone using the Family Profile as their payment method.
5. The cost of the trip will automatically be billed to the Family Profile and the organiser will receive a receipt for every ride. You’ll also receive an automatic notification letting you follow along on a map whenever someone on your family profile takes a trip

For the Family Profile rider:

1. Open the email invitation to Family Profiles and accept – you’ll also need to download the app if you haven’t got it.
2. The first time you ride, make sure you’re using the latest version of the app and choose the Family Profile as your default payment method.
3. Once selected, request a ride as you normally would and get moving!

While we’ve called this feature Family Profiles, you can decide who counts as your Uber Family! It’s a great way to help friends, family or even flatmates get where they want to go while you foot the bill. Whether you’re a parent with kids away at university, a son or daughter wanting to help parents maintain their independence or a couple wanting to charge rides to the same card, it’s never been easier to share some Uber love around to the people that matter most in your life.

The Family Profiles features is now available to all rider in the UK with the latest version of the app.
