Providing 50,000 free trips and meals to those at risk of violence and assault during the pandemic.
Reports have shown that violence against women increased by up to 20% during the pandemic.
We supported anti-domestic-violence organisations and local governments around the world to provide more than 50,000 free rides to shelters and safe spaces and more than 45,000 free meals to those at risk.
None of this would be possible without the insight and expertise of our partners, who not only educate us but also tirelessly help those who are suffering. Many such partnerships exist around the world; here we’re highlighting 3 from France, the UK and Brazil.
Collectif Féministe Contre le Viol (France)
Uber offered free rides to enable sexual abuse survivors to access legal help and psychological support. Journeys to important legal appointments, court cases and other meetings may have traditionally been difficult for these women due to cost, distance and logistics.
Hestia (UK)
We provided free rides as well as funding to Hestia, one of the largest providers of support to domestic abuse victims in London and South East, UK. In 2020, it supported 2,800 women and children to recover from the trauma of domestic abuse.
Instituto Avon (Brazil)
We supported the creation of Angela, a chatbot accessed through WhatsApp, launched during the pandemic to allow women to ask for help in a silent way. In addition, with Uber promo codes, they can move with more independence to seek help.
The examples above represent only a handful of the organisations working on issues of violence against women in France, the UK and Brazil and our innovative ways of working together.
