The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) has partnered with Uber for Husker Share, a new shared rides programme designed exclusively for UNL students, faculty, and staff.
With Husker Share, eligible riders can enjoy stress-free shared Uber journeys around Lincoln while saving up to 20% on standard UberX fares.
What is Husker Share?
Husker Share is a campus-exclusive rideshare programme, powered by Uber’s Closed Loop Share feature.
It connects verified UNL riders travelling in the same direction, allowing riders to:
- Share rides with up to two other Huskers
- Lower trip costs compared to standard UberX
- Travel within a trusted Husker-only rider network
Whether you’re heading to a late-night study session at Love Library or heading home after a night out, Husker Share offers a simple, affordable way to get around campus and the surrounding areas.

How to sign up for Husker Share
Ready to travel with your fellow Huskers? Follow these steps to enrol:
- Make sure you have the Uber app. To travel with Husker Share, you’ll need an Uber account and the Uber app.
- If you don’t have an Uber account, download the Uber app from the App Store or Google Play. Then, create your Uber account by providing the necessary details and following the app prompts.
- If you already have an Uber account, you’re ready for the next step.
- Enrol with your UNL credentials. Use your UNL credentials to access and complete this secure enrolment form.
- Wait for verification. Once your affiliation has been verified, Husker Share will appear as a ride option in your Uber app.

How to ride with Husker Share
To request a Husker Share ride, follow these steps:
- Open the app and enter your destination address in the “Where to?” field.
- Check your pick-up and drop-off locations to make sure they’re correct.
- You’ll see several ride options, including UberX, Share, and XL. To ride with Husker Share, select the Husker Share ride option.
Note: Husker Share allows only one person per booking. If you are travelling with a friend, request an UberX to your destination instead.
- Select Choose to confirm your ride option
- Select Confirm pickup to confirm your pickup location.
Remember: All Husker Share journeys must start and end within the designated service zone.
Waiting for your driver
While your driver is on the way, follow these best practices:
- Use the Uber app to track the vehicle’s arrival.
- When your driver is a few minutes away, make your way to your pick-up location.
- Once your vehicle has arrived, check your ride before getting in: confirm that the registration number displayed in your app matches the actual vehicle. Drivers will often also ask your name before starting the trip.
- Enjoy your trip! Once your trip ends, you won’t need to worry about payment as your payment method is already linked to your Uber account.
- Let us know how your trip went by rating your trip. You can also give your driver a compliment or add a tip in the app. Tipping is not compulsory.

Husker Share will match you with up to two other individual riders, for a maximum of three passengers from different parties in the vehicle at one time. Husker Share is designed to add no more than 8 minutes on average to your journey.
How much does Husker Share cost?
Shared rides can be up to 20% cheaper than standard UberX fares because riders share journeys with other UNL community members travelling in the same direction.
