Uber Pet – A ride for all paws

25 June 2020 / New Zealand
Featured image for Uber Pet – A ride for all paws

We are excited to announce that we are launching a new pet-friendly ride option – Uber Pet – for riders travelling with a pet from 25 June 2020.

When a rider requests an Uber Pet trip, they agree to pay a little extra for their ride, which means you will earn more per trip than you would with UberX on the same route.

The trip type will be shown on the request screen in the Driver app.

Uber New Zealand’s assistance animal policy

Driver-Partners may choose to stop receiving Uber Pet trips requests at any time, but are still required by law to accept riders with assistance animals (e.g. guide dogs) – assistance animals are legally allowed to go everywhere their owner goes. Please review Uber’s assistance animal policy to learn more.

FAQs

  • Uber Pet is limited to one pet per trip. If the rider has more pets, it will be left to the discretion of the Driver-Partner to take them on the trip.

  • Uber Pet is designed for domesticated animals only. We anticipate cats and dogs to be the most frequent, but Uber Pet allows for any kind of domesticated animal to be brought on a trip - at the Driver-Partner’s discretion.

Riders are fully responsible for controlling their pet while on the trip. Driver-Partners maintain the right to refuse animals they deem unsafe or uncontrolled.

  • To ensure the safety of the Driver-Partner, riders and animal, we strongly encourage all riders to use a leash, harness or pet carrier during the trip. Riders are fully responsible for controlling their pet while on the trip.

  • For minor issues related to pet hair, animal odour, or typical wear-and-tear, a cleaning fee will not apply. In the case of those incidents where car cleaning is necessary (e.g. urine, faeces, vomit, damage, etc.), riders will need to pay a cleaning fee. Cleaning fees will be assessed and charged according to the extent of damage.

The rider is solely responsible for the animal and its behaviour during the entire trip.

  • It will be left to the Driver-Partner’s discretion to either continue with the trip (Uber Pet rates will not apply) or kindly ask the rider to cancel the trip and request an Uber Pet ride. Remember, you are still legally required to transport riders with assistance animals (e.g. guide dogs) even on UberX – assistance animals are legally allowed to go everywhere their owner goes. You can review Uber’s assistance animal policy to learn more.

  • Have a mat or blanket ready in the boot of your car for Uber Pet trips – you can lay this over the seat and feet areas in the back of your car. Remember to remove the mat or blanket after completing the Uber Pet trip in preparation for your next rider.

  • A maximum of two riders and one pet may ride with Uber Pet. Additional riders will be left to the discretion of the Driver-Partner.

  • Uber Pet trip requests will automatically be turned on for all Driver-Partners. You can easily turn these requests off (or back on) in the Driver Preferences section of the app.

Remember, you are still legally required to accept riders with assistance animals (e.g. guide dogs), even if you have chosen not to receive Uber Pet requests – assistance animals are legally allowed to go everywhere their owner goes. You can review Uber’s assistance animal policy to learn more.
