We are reintroducing Black as a luxury and premium ride option so riders can enjoy an upgraded experience and you can increase your earning opportunities. Black connects riders with deluxe vehicles and top-rated driver-partners.

What is changing for Black?
New rating, trip, and vehicle criteria
We want to make sure that riders connect with top-rated drivers to ensure a premium experience. To drive on Black trips, driver-partners will need to:
- Drive an eligible model vehicle that is manufactured within 6 years (in or after 2013)*
- Complete at least 100 trips
- Maintain an average rating of 4.85 or above
*Transition period applies to some vehicles. Please refer to transition timetable for full details.
Please note that if at any time your average rating falls below 4.85, you will stop receiving Black trips. Once your average rating returns to 4.85 or above you will once again begin receiving Black trips.
Higher trip rates than UberX and Comfort
The price of a Black trip is 1.7 times the price of the same UberX trip, so eligible driver-partners will make more for each Black trip they take. To see the rates for Black and other products, just click here.
Adjusted wait time and cancellation policy
Offering riders increased flexibility at pickup creates a better and more premium experience for them. We have extended the free wait time for riders to 6 minutes and the cancellation threshold to 10 minutes. Riders will be charged a per-minute fee for wait time after 6 minutes. If you have been waiting for 10 minutes, and the trip has not commenced you can choose to wait or cancel the trip for an increased cancellation fee of $40 (before service fee) to compensate you for your time.
Ride Preferences
Riders may choose to take Black when they are looking for a premium service, so we have developed an in-app feature – Ride Preferences – for riders to indicate their requests. When a rider requests a Black trip, they can request their ideal temperature, whether they wish to chat and let you know if they have luggage, all shown on your Driver app before you arrive.

To ensure a comfortable experience for riders, we encourage driver-partners to deliver best-in-class service. For example, fully catering to their Ride Preferences is a great start:
- Adjust your vehicle temperature to rider’s preferred temperature (warm, hot, cold or cool)
- Be friendly and helpful while catering to their conversation preference (quiet or chatty)
- Lend a hand with their bags and luggage

- Performing pick-ups, drop-offs and navigation confidently
