COVID-19: activation information for new driver-partners and delivery-partners
8 May 2020 / Hong KongAs cities respond to COVID-19, government agencies are operating with limited access temporarily, and more people are staying home. This means account activation is delayed at this time and it may take longer to get on the road. You may also experience fewer trip requests from riders, so earnings may be lower than usual if you choose to give rides only. After you’re activated, you may want to consider delivering with Uber Eats by creating another account as a delivery partner.
As cities respond to COVID-19, cities continue limiting movement and more people continue to stay at home. This means you can see fewer trip requests and earnings with specific products.
Activation information for new driver-partners and delivery-partners
Account activation may still have delays for new drivers-partners so we are providing you with important information all in one place to help you in the meantime.
1. Guidance for activation requirements and documentation
You can find minimum requirements for driver documents here and for delivery people here. In some cases, you may not be able to get local documentation or requirements needed to get your account activated due to government shutdowns in your city. In others, you may see delays in processing your documentation. See below for details.
Uber Driver Partners
Your requirements
Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card | – Accept original copy only. – All documents have to be valid. – Non-permanent HK residents are not accepted. |
HK driving license | – Hold a valid license on vehicle classification code 1/1A/2/2A. – Probationary Licence is ineligible. |
Taxi Driver Identity Plate (Required for Taxi Driver Partner only) | – Accept original copy only. – All documents have to be valid. |
Your vehicle requirements if you’re driving with Uber
Vehicle Registration | – The Manufacturing year of vehicles must be within 15 years. – Must be a four-door vehicle. |
Vehicle Insurance | – The insurance has to be valid. – Have to display the insured vehicle registration number. |
Vehicle License | – The document has to be valid. – Accept original copy only. |
Uber Eats Delivery Partners
Your requirements
1. 18 years old or above, 2. Hold a HK Identity card | Both permanent and non-permanent HK residents are eligible. |
Your vehicle requirements if you’re delivering with a motorbike
Driving license | – Hold a valid license on vehicle classification code 3 (Motorbike) – Probationary Licence is ineligible |
Vehicle Insurance | – Minimum requirement insurance type is third party insurance. |
Vehicle Registration | – Accept original copy only. – All documents have to be valid. |
2. Guidance for eligibility verification
Driver screening | After signing up, we will undertake a background screening for driver partners before activation. Status: It takes 2-3 business days. |
3. Guidance if you’re looking for support
In-person support and activations in Uber Greenlight Hubs near you | Based on the advice of public health authorities, we have temporarily closed all Uber Greenlight Hubs until further notice. While Uber Greenlight Hubs are closed, you can always get support online at Uber’s Help Center. |
